Shame I reckon we would of sold 20,000 plus for this one
all this lost revenue .... surely if we get our new ground 17,000 capacity will not be enough Ron take note... Our club is growing alot faster than u may realise...

Great to see but the big test will be if we are struggling in the Championship next year - people want to see a winning side, regardless of division.

It's very clear that we have the potential though, all we need to do is convert most of these new fans into die hards and get them to forget about the Premier$hite clubs they 'support' as their first team...

Sorry if the following crowd facts upset a few of you who don't like topics about crowds.

Here are the last five home attendances from the 1990/1 season Tranmere 8,622; Wigan 7,550; Cambridge 10,664; Leyton Orient 8,760; Brentford 9,666

As you can see they were not bad and not far off what we will get for the last five games of this season. But look what happened when when we went up crowds in 1991/2 were very poor and soon dropped to below 5,000 for quite a few games.

Lets hope that with increased season ticket sales, increased junior support and with a few good results thrown in that we can actually keep the support this time whatever division we are in. Of course we will not have the same board of directors as we had in the early 90's who's motto was 'if you don't like it go and support another team' great PR!!!!!!

Yes Ron realises. We are at a possible all time high at the moment. But have still only rarely completely filled the ground.
Give it a year or 2 with us potentially struggling to stay in the Championship, the west stand moaners will be asking for Tilly's head and our crowds will be back down to 5,500. Do we really need a Darlo on our hands?
Half of our catchment area is in the sea and the other half will quite happily go and watch Premier$hite football or even lesser priced non-league football when we start losing games again. That's just a way of life I'm afraid. Give me a 2/3 full smaller ground anyday.
Ask any Millwall fan what the atmosphere is like down The Den these days, I reckon they won't give you a great answer.

Also remember that this is the one that everyone wants to go to. Some of us live all around the country and can't go to every match. Hence these supporters are unlikely to all attend the same match - unlike Bristol City which none of want to miss. After all if you read this board regularly you will know our support is spread far and wide and so I bet people will be travelling huge distances to be there on the 5th may.

Too right!
Those sleazyJet feckers better NOT be on strike on 6 May or I will sue Stelios for every penny the fat Greek muppet has got!

Yeah from what I've heard the plan was always to start with a small increase in capacity at the new ground, thought i heard 15,000 mentioned (correct me if im wrong). Then depending on how things go have the land and potential to increase this to 17,000-20,000.

My housemate is a Plymouth Argyle fan and he said that their crowds dropped when things went a bit tits up. Its natural for the glory hunters not to stick around. I think the main aim is to increase the number of die-hards.

Saying that how many die-hard supporters do you reckon we currently have? I commute from Bournemouth to as many as I can!

No sweat, Rich, I will pick you up on my way down. I may take a little longer than SleazyJet, but travelling with me and my brood is a never-to-be-forgotten experience!

A large part of our catchment area may be the North Sea and Estuary but do not dismiss out of hand the possibility that fish may also 'catch the Roots Hall bug' if we go up. At the Hartlepool game I noticed a couple of plaice and a turbot sitting near me in the East stand and they were getting quite into it.

Cheers!

Bet if they are on strike I won't see any of my air-fare again.
I can just hear the over made-up girl on check-in now "Did you not read your terms & conditions when you booked?"

Doesn't stop me going bruv!

Agree that we don't want a tiny crowd in a massive ground, but the most important thing is that we can accomodate our crowds. Not being able to sell any more tickets for the biggest celbration we've seen for 15 years for over a month is a huge opportunity lost. Not just revenue, but also all those who get the impression that it's a real hassle to get tickets for Southend games and in future don't bother.

The on-going revenue from non-match-days should also count well for us, revenue we don't currently get.

Maybe they could show the game live in the Odeon or something? It would still enable more people in Southend to then celebrate together having seen the game.

and set up a big screen at Layer Road so the Col Ewe fans who don't make the trip to Yeovil can watch our title winning celebrations instead!
