Lack of height

Manager
following the signing of JCR (beit on loan for the time being) im starting to get a bit worried about the lack of height in the squad. before anyone rants on, im not saying we havnt had a great start to the season and i know that more 'football' will be played in this division rather than the hoofball we became so use to watching in the old div 3. my problem is that although we havnt conceded many from set pieces including corners, we still managed to look far more confident and able last season. baring bentley, who isnt getting much of a look in at present, i would regard our whole midfield as weak in the air, including sir kev

I think with Maher the lack of height you are talking about really isn't a problem, Kev prefers to get the ball on the ground and play it around the pitch and even if he were 7 foot tall I think he would still prefer to get the ball on the ground, however I do think that overall we could do with the height that Bentley offers in midfield.
However we have done ok so far this season and only time will tell if we are going to be punished for this lack of height in midfield, so let's all just pray we carry on like we have done

I think the only time when the lack of height will become a problem, is when we play teams like Brentford who like to get the ball from back to front quickly and muscle teams out of games. Though this of course can be combatted by getting the ball down and playing to our strengths. Problems will only occur when we fail to do this effectively.

It doesnt matter, as long as the midfield do there job and create goals and put tackles in, I dont mind us letting in a goal or two as long as put more in than the other team lol. We must have the best midfield in the div

I was anxious every time they had a corner because of this lack of height.

Worth bearing in mind though....
-> Barrett doesn't necessarily win a lot of headers but he always makes it very difficult for the striker to head it.
-> Guttridge wins far more headers than he should
-> Gray has a great leap
-> Goater has surprising strength and is also very handy in the air.
-> The two full backs are pretty tall for fullbacks based on what we have seen and I've always thought Hunt was decent in the air.

Not a problem if we play like we can in the way we play though

Both Wilson and Hunt win far more in the air then they should, however sometimes the size of the team may cause us problems, allthough we coped OK last year.

I would of thought that with the current squad it would be more of a problem in a higher level (the Championship) as we would have to resort to a longer ball at times as our football wouldn't be so dominant, and also the higher the level the more athletic the players.

Most Premier$hite teams have at least 9 or 10 players over 5'10 tall.

yea lets get lots more tall players and try and play the game properly like Lincoln Towers, that'll really solve any more ticketing fiascos too. UHHHHHH some people !!!!!!

Lack of height XI anyone ?

Darryl - obviously
Jason Cook - centre midfielder left SUFC to become a lumberjack in a mushroom factory
Andy Ansah - left SUFC to become a trainee pilot for Airfix

Who cares about size, when the points dry up then we'll talk about it.

Thanks....

Billy Best wasn't exactly a giant either

Does anyone recall a keeper shorter than Daryl in recent times, obviously pre 1970 under 6 footers were commonplace.

Anyone remember the two at Ipswich in the 70's lawrie Sivell was one I am sure they were around 5'7''
