Kirk Hudson

Now before we get started this is by no means a rumour mill, but a player i would like to see us go for. He is a local lad and had a trial a few years back but was not taken on.
Since then he has been at aldershot and helped them to promotion and won young player of the year for the whole conference. He scored 15 goals in 25 league starts in the conference and has got 9 goals in 24 starts in league 2 and all those from right wing (a position we could certainly do with improving).
I actually read a write up from chris kamara in the sun? saying he is being looked at by a few bigger clubs including a couple of championship clubs, so why not seeing as he is a local lad try and get him in before one of these championship players comes in.

I know Kirk very well, played for Celtic youth, then got released so Ipswich signed him, didnt work for him at Ipswich so they released him, then had a trial for us, we didnt bother with him, so Aldershot signed him.
A very talented player i must say.

Kirk is a very decent player, was at Celtic for a few year's and was a hot property of theirs.

He appeared in the Celtic first team during a couple of friendlies and has been a key member of Aldershot's recent success.

I reckon he would be very decent....local lad from Shoebury aswell. His brother plays at Gt Wakering

For some reason though, Southend always miss out on local talent. Suprising as the club are so adament to see a player break through the youth ranks.

We missed out on a few....Neil Harris, Dean Gerken, Matt Lockwood, Paul Benson to name a few.

he went to my school good player

Kirk has been on the Southend radar for years ,However Since his time at Arsenal , when he was 11, Through Ipswich, Chelsea etc he never really settled anywhere.
He seemed to be doing alright at Celtic (Played a couple of reserve games when he was 17) but fell out of favour once Strachan arrived and was released at 18. various trials (including us) and a three month contract a cash strapped Bournemouth he ended up at Aldershot and wasn't tearingup trees there either, He does seem to have got his act together since he broke into the first team properly halfway through last season.

My Son always rated him as a player , but playing up front with him for the junior school team may make him slightly bias. Me I don't think we should sign him, largely down to the mess he made at my Sons 5th Birthday party !

Personally, I don't think a move to Southend would suit Kirk, as in the past he has seemed to settle and perform better when he is away from Shoebury.......

The first three would have something to do with David Webb not believing in Youth set ups, preferring to let the bigger clubs bring through the kids and pick up those who don't quite make it.

Benson was a very late developer (He is 29 now and only been a Full time pro for 3 and a bit years) and had an extensive trial with us and was invited back, but Non League Daggers took a punt....

I once had a discussion with a Blues manager nearly 20 years ago, about the lack of local players making the grade at the Blues. His reply was '....if they're any good they will go up the line to West Ham, Spurs etc anyway....we let them give the lads a good grounding and catch them on the way down.!'

A real talent, known Kirk all my life and i know hes already said that he could never turn us down.

Whether that offer comes is another thing thou.
