King Kevin Maher

Pretty sure he became team captain in 2002/03 when Big Phil Whelan was in and out of the team due to injuries and losing his legs, then took over Club Captaincy at the beginning of 2003/04 after Whelan left the club.

So start of 2002/03 until end of 2007/08 (he was still club captain that season, even though he barely played and went out on loan)

2002/3 till 2008/9, six seasons.

Thanks fellas!

too many seasons in my view - Damon Searle should have been the skipper

Have to disagree there, Phil Whelan last season if it was not Maher it should have been Warren

The following season again could have been Warren or Barrett

But Maher was a great servant and good skipper

We talk about North Bank abuse today to our players, Maher had ten times worse and managed to become a great servant.

The South Bank upper had a banner once stating Martin &Maher out (That's Alvin not Ron:smile:), my son was a mascot against Huddersfield many moons a go, and I had the pleasure of talking to Kevin and asked him how he felt about the constant booing and negative calls against him, he just smiled and said it was part of the game, some players go to jelly others get stronger, I think we know which one King Kev became

Whilst he was not a great goal scorer, the way he marshalled the mid field was something that was missed when out through injuries and suspensions, would love to see him get his testimonial he so deserves and maybe one day come back like Tilson and be involved with the club

Great post.

Kudos to Kevin Maher, he was a fanstastic player and leader for us during a golden period. I'd love to see him come back as manager one day.

King Kev was released from Daggers i think at the end of the season, any idea if he has anything fixed up for next season in the league...

Personally would love him back, im sure he could do a job in front of the back 4 if we need to protect a lead...

Oh please,Maher had two very good seasons, two average and six poor.Move on.

Have to say something in that. Additinally He left under a cloud with Ron Martin and can't see that being repaired enough to him to want to returm here anyway. Even if it is/was possible.
