keith Mercer interview

Always liked the barrel-chested fella. I had a theory at the time that he'd have three shots and score one goal - it was nearly always right.

One of my best memories of Keith Mercer is when he had to play in goal, after John Keeley managed to get himself sent off. He filled both goal and jersey better than Keeley.

Mercer and Derek Spence up front were a very good combination. Walked the old fourth division (league two) with a near perfect home record.
I remember we seemed to win every home game 2-0

The Roly-Poly Goalie!

Yes, I remember that one H. He was an unlikely looking footballer, especially in today's more athletic age - he was our Franny Lee in that respect, without the diving. He had a good shot on him and he was a great hustler and bustler. I liked his spirit and enthusiasm and as previously said, he had a great partnership with Spenno. Them was the days, my friend.
