...just remember it means diddly squat.

Look at the opening day fixtures in our 7 promotion seasons -

1971-2 Peterborough away lost 2-0 Finished 2nd
1980-1 Bury away won 2-1 Champions
1986-7 Peterborough away lost 2-0 Promoted
1989-90 York home won 2-0 Promoted
1990-1 Huddersfield away won 2-1 Promoted
2004-5 Cheltenham home lost 2-0 Promoted
2005-6 Port Vale home lost 2-1 Champions

We've won 3 and lost 4.

Further, in 1974-5 we won our opening 4 games and finished 18th.

Cliche alert-

It's a marathon not a sprint
It's not how you start it's how you finish

Even the style of play in the opening game means nowt. You get a better idea after 10 games and even then things change.

So let's keep positive guys and also remember that a 6-0 win doesn't mean we'll win the league (but I'd take it and boy would we feel good!)

Seeing as this is the only game I'll be watching this side of Xmas a win would be great but not the end of the world. Just to have THAT feeling again when the teams run out onto the pitch and my hairs stand on end is enough for me today.

Cliche alert 2;

Start how you mean to go on.:loyalsupporter:come on you mighty mighty Shrimpers.

Wiggy is already charging the computer in preparation !!

.........but we wont .., i think anyway !

this game was also on the hottest day of they year IIRC...far too hot to play football!

I'm not too bothered about the result today, as long as we acquit ourselves a lot better than I've seen so far! As pointed out, a loss on the 1st day means next to nothing and I certainly wouldn't want to go galloping into a top of the table sprint like we did last season, only to fall away again as the season creeps on. There or thereabouts and then a good surge will do me fine.

I am bothered about todays result, I want my team to win! and get off to a good start to the season. Accrington at home is a game we should win if we have any ambition for the season. Also a win will stop a bit of the doom and gloom thats been hanging round, its important we win to get the feel good factor back.
