Just got back

Very disappointing result, deserved to win let alone lose. Pretty much evens during 1st half and looked a scr@ppy 1st goal from Hunt. Took 5 seconds for us to realise it had gone in!! Wednesdays 1st goal looked offside, but dreadful defending, and 2nd goal was total freak OG.

2nd half we dominated for 44 minutes and Bradders had one disallowed which i dont know what for - offside? Freddy had chance before which he should have scored from 3 yards but missed the ball. Pen was down other end but looked handball IMO.

Atmosphere wise, one of best atmospheres ive been 2 for a while. Ring of fire went on for about 20 mins leading upto Freddys goal.

Question was, was it intentional though? Did it look intentional?

Hard to say, shot came in, i think it was hunt who slid in to block and from my view definately hit hand. But i doubt it was intentional. Hard to say from my view down the other end. The championship should clear things up tomorrow

How did the overall performance compare wiht the Palace game? Hopefully you are going to say more passion, more commitment and more determination, in which case we may have a chance of survival.

Personally I thought we played much better, we certainly had more chances than against Palace and looked much more dangerous when we went forwards.
Sadly we had absolutely zero luck, though IF we hadn't conceded a very soft equaliser a minute after we scored it would probably have been a different story.

We're only four points from safety, but 7 wins from our remaining games is too much of an ask I think.

I agree we did play much better, especially the second half. But what a kick in the teeth awarding the penalty in the 95th minute, when the whistle should have been blown in the 93rd!. What have we got to do to get a little bit of luck on our side. Felt a little sorry for Hunt and judging his body language at the whistle he appeared gutted. I also heard Spinner got a red card in the tunnel afterwards anybody else hear this? and what about their trainer outside his area when he deliberatly shoved Sodji-not even a yellow card and, MOST of the decisions given to us was given by the linesman and not the ref. Oh well it makes the remaining games vital to pick points up from.

Just got back. Unbelievable decision by a referee who IMHO was probably the worst we've experienced this season. Never come across this guy before (Andre somebody or other) but he was an absolute idiot. Brief synopsis of the game...first half, defensively we were poor, second half we outplayed them and they looked extremely poor. They had one decent shot on goal during second half...the penalty!

Got back an hour ago, can't believe we lost today. Apart from 20 minutes in the first half (where they murdered us!) we murdered them! We played some fantastic football in the second half orchestrated by Gower. Playing Gower in the middle was a great tactical move by Tilly, his passing today was the best I've seen from a Southend central midfielder since Ronnie Whelan. Another good move from Tilly was replacing Che with Francis at half time and switching Hunt to left back as our defending in the first half was dreadful!

Can't comment on the penalty incident as it occured at the other end, Flavs nearly saved it though. It would've been 2 points dropped if we drew but to lose was a travesty. With such a good performance in the second half and Hammell, Clarke and Macca returning next week and a winnable set of fixtures remaining it ain't over yet!

My ratings:

Flavs 8 - Two fantastic saves to keep us in the game. Unlucky with the first goal, I don't think he was at fault for the own goal as Prior arrived late to provide a killer finish into the back of the net!

Che 4 - Sadly he looked totally out of his depth and was replaced at half time. Their winger Johnson gave him a torrid 45 minutes. Although Che was a bit rusty he just isn't good enough for this level. I think that may be last time we see him in a Southend shirt.

Hunt 7 - Good for him to get on the scoresheet and nearly won a penalty in the second half. Unlucky to be penalised for handball it seems. His positioning was a bit dodgy in the first half though.

Sodje 5 - What's gone wrong with Efe? All I can think is he isn't 100% fit. His timing has gone, his aerial abilty is nothing like it was in before christmas. He improved slightly in the second half.

Spinner 5 - What was he doing for the own goal?! It was a great finish! It didn't appear to be a miskick, with his experience it seems strange for him to do something as rash as that. Flavs would've collected the cross comfortably. Apart from that error he was slightly better than Sodje.

Gower 9 MOM - A fantastic display of passing from him. Numerous defence splitting passes and fine link up play. No loanee would've been capable of such a performance, certainly not a 'square peg in a round hole'.

Captain Kev 7 - Outshone by Gower in the centre of the park but a solid performance. However another needless booking at the end of the game for dissent, when will he ever learn?

JCR 7 - Causing constant problems for the full back and full of energy as ever. A couple of decent crosses but not as many as Foran provided.

Foran 8 - Looks a great signing. He had three or four goal attempts but was thwarted by Turner who had a good game in goal for Wednesday. Plenty of running, great headers won and good crosses delivered. He must be a regular in the team from now on.

Bradbury 6 - Full of endeavour but he doesn't provide enough of a goal threat

Freddy 8 - Well taken goal and a constant threat. He nearly scored a second but got stuck in the muddy goalmouth and the rebound (to Bradbury I think?) was disallowed for offside.

Sub: Francis 7 - Played at right back for the second half and looked comfortable, also provided a couple of decent crosses.

Not used : Collis, Moussa, Hooper, Harrold.

He was sent to the stands
