Quote[/b] (SUBBlue @ April 17 2006,21:26)]Well, seeing as you've just got back thought I'd let you know that Barnsley are whingeing like bitches about our physical intimidation compared to their "free flowing football".
So what do you think? A Lucky point or well deserved draw?
All I can say is that they must be deaf, dumb, blind and stupid.
We controlled the first half, first ten minutes excepted, and were the only team trying to play football. How they were 2-0 up at half-time with 11 men still on the pitch was an absloute travesty. We shaded the first half and 0-0 or even 1-0 to us would have been about right.
Barnsley did not creat a single chance in the first half (or have a shot on goal?). The first goal was an abosolute fluke - you wont see a goal as lucky as that again if you watch a game a day for the next 50 years.
As for their second goal, was a blatent foul on Darryl by their number 29 as he punched clear. Sods law, they score from the resulting corner.
What made it worse is that the 29 had twice been warned for pole-axing Darryl as he punched, not to mention the 29 cynically sything Maher down earlier on in the half. He could have easily been red carded and how he wasn't shown a red I'll never know.
But boy did the ref get some stick at half-time (the players tunnel was at the away end) and rightly so
. A couple of hundred Shrimpers made their way down to the front of the stand and let him have it with full force
. He was at least a bit better in the second half and arguably evened things up by turining down a strong penalty appeal (although it was hard to tell as it was at the other end).
As for our comeback, fantastic and a point was the least we deserved. With a bit of luck and a competent ref we would have all three points - we certainly had 5 or so decent chances whereas I can't recall Barnsley creating much at all. Having got the equaliser I thought we'd go on to win it - the key chance was Goater taking the ball off Hunt's head when it looked a certainty for Hunt to score. Can't complain though, especially with Brentford slipping up.
Oh, and Freddy's goal was pure class - up there with the best he's scored this season - 20 yard screamer across the keeper into the top corner
.
Final comment on the support, absolutelty immense. Must have been 2,000 there and didn't stop singing from start to finish and sounded more like 5,000 plus. The away support can take plenty of credit for the comeback (and for getting the ref to improve second half).
Very proud to be a Shrimper tonight.
Roll on Saturday ...
