July the 22nd D-Day Part 1

After a long chat with somebody high up at the club today I am informed of the following.

Everything is going to plan re: HMRC, Charterhouse,PFA, (add numerous bills here, my keyboard would run out of ink) and all will be sorted within the next week or so..The club is due to hand papers to the High Court this coming Thursday to prove they are financially stable...The court then have to digest the information received and make a final decision on August the 2nd.

At this moment in time the Club are awaiting a written guarantee that Sainsbury's will cover all forthcoming club debts/bills /commitments and they expect this to be confirmed in writing before Thursday. A few T's to be crossed etc ..*cough*

Obviously they need to show the Courts "The Deal" in writing and hopefully this will be sorted forthwith...Lets face it SB's are to far in and need this store.

Now this is great news and I for one will breath a sigh of relief if this all falls into place..but there will no doubt be some huge clauses SB's add in. I just hope RM can sustain and keep his side of the deal.

I would also suggest that sainsburys would only agree to this with proof from ron that the stadium is actually going to start soon, or sainsburys have agreed to start that too

Great news. If the Courts are going to take everything away then I'm sure that they will give things the level of analysis and scrutiny that people have been looking for.

If we're then put into Administration then we have to deal with it. If we're not then I hope people accept that things might just be beginning to look slightly up.

I may be wrong but has this sort of thing ever happened with a football club before? Usually the decision is taken on the day.

The judge will not know what he is looking at. It will be in the hands of professional accountants and lawyers to go through it in fine detail looking for any possible problems that may arise. A judge cann't stare at a few bits of paper in court and pass a decision then and there.

Good new for Southend if this is the case. Hope it means we're not just going to be bailed out by Sainsburys for the forseable though. Having got the big earners off the books i would expect us to have a far lower wage bill this year than most previous seasons, and the fact we are signing a few non-league players who have the hunger to prove they are good enough this level should reflect in the wages also. Just need the fans to get behind the team and support them by going to matches and cheering the players and manager on

It will be interesting to see the level of support for matches. I hope not too many people have got the hump and stay away as that is the last thing we need.

Gates are always pretty low for the first couple of games. We're all football fans and we're all fickle. If we have a couple of wins under our belt by the end of August then I think crowds will be respectable.

The Derby protest would be almost pointless now, wouldn't it?

The only thing I wouldn't agree with is your word almost.....................completely futile is closer to the mark. I think that people have to really let sink in what has been happening at the club over, particularly, the last two weeks. All the painfull bloodletting has been distressing and worrying but perhaps this news gives us a glimpse of the bigger plan and we can understand why this has been necessary.
The thing that has made this proccess so difficult is the dismantling of a team that was so much part of us...................we all know how Tilly and Adam Barrett had Blue blood running in their veins. I would imagine, that in years to come the 'Tilly Era' will be looked back on with much emotion and fondness.............some very special years. I forsee, in the years to come, many pages on SZ taken up with debate about whether that period, under Tilson, had taken us as far as we could go or whether he would have taken us onto even greater heights.
It took God seven days to build the world..........it's taking Sturrock a little longer, to build us a new football team. If this is all snatched away by the courts or some other 'act of God' over the next few weeks...........................I'm afraid protests will be of little use and are more likely to be an irritant. In the end "the die is cast" and all we can do is sit back with fingers crossed, hoping that we can look forward to a brighter future with us concentrating our full attention to what is going on 'on the pitch'.

I was with John when this was mentioned by said person and I can say that was he's said is 100% correct :)

My next post will be in another 3 months time, just so's ya know :))

Re the first part, I know. It just seems unusual for a football club to be in this position and wondered whether anyone knew if any other cases in which this had happened.

On your second paragraph, I think we're in grave need of help with pretty much all of our bills this season. I just don't see how/where we're going to generate the cash to cover them otherwise, and that would be the case whoever was in charge. If we can get through this season with Sainsburys support then we should be able to start next season (11/12) on a relatively clean slate - subject to whatever the terms are of the agreement with Sainburys and the huge amount of money that they are lending us.

Aha, so I now know who the likely source was! Happened to be pushing a pushchair around.....and I don't mean Crowny!

Dave the Kitman is back!?

Seriously though, good news and lets hope that we go into the Stockport game with a decent squad and looking forward to a new chapter.
