Johnny Herd

Why doesn't Tilly give Johnny Herd an extended crack at left midfield? We've had an assortment of bodies tried there since Gower went, Mousa sort of got the hang of it eventually, but mostly made us realise how effective Gower was. Herd is left footed, has a bit of pace, loads of energy and of course a fantastic long throw.

Should be in at LB.

First time I've seen Malone and wasnt impressed. Again, its another young left back on loan when we have our own player who is (IMO) good enough to play in this side.

Plus the long throw is a really effective weapon when Plan A isnt working.

I'm with you on the LB thing, but obviously Tilly doesnt fancy him there............ even tho he was good enough to play there at Chelsea, with the bonus of 'making ' our equalizer.

Why are we giving a wolves player valauble experience when Herd should be the one gaining the experience . Can't say that Malone is any better than Herd in my opinion !

Because he isn't a left winger?

Herd is a full back, one who is still learning his trade, and not a winger, or left midfielder which ever one you want to call it.

Its similiar to Francis on the right wing if you ask me. Herd doesn't have the blistering pace to beat a man from a standing position which would enable him the space to put a ball into the box. He also doesn't have an array of tricks which will enable him to beat a man from a standing position.

When he does get forward from left back, and go past a man, its because he is having the ball played to him on the move against people that aren't moving, and need to change direction.

Its as simple as that really.

And this is the problem, he appears to have been pigeon holed already by the manager(and you BW), very early in his career. We have a threadbare squad that is clearly struggling at this level, we need to explore every option and this is an obvious one that I feel should be tried - at least it will get the poor lad on the pitch!

Not sure about the 'lack of blistering pace....lack of of tricks' bit, I can think of someone who has always lacked both of these atributes, but has made a good few million by whipping in the odd great cross!

Well, he was brought to the Clubs youth team as a left back, he progressed through the youth team as a left back, played reserve team football as a left back and has now played first team football as a left back, hence the reason he is a left back. I imagine, without knowing for sure, he was a left back for the sunday side he was at before he was brought here.

To compare one of the best players this country has ever produced in David Beckham, with a league one left back that can't get in the side like Johnny Herd is laughable.

Beckham has a superb footballing brain, and he is able to find gaps on the field. If you give Beckham two seconds on the ball, he will get it out of his feet and deliver a cross. I've seen no evidence from Herd to suggest he'd be able to do this.

Don't get me wrong, I'd like to see Herd given a run in the side, we all would.

One thing I will ask though, and it appears to be the case for Moussa as well, does Herd get better treatment from fans, and given the benefit of the doubt by fans because he has come through the youth team?

Is Grant a centre back ??? Tilly play a player out of position - never !!

Don't get me wrong, Tilson has played players out of position before, and probably will do again at some stage this season but I don't see him playing Herd at left wing, rightly so, until Scannell, Laurent, Walker, Moussa and probably Macca get injured all at once.

Received a text earlier saying that M'Voto would miss out tomorrow due to his injury and so would Malone meaning that Johnny is in contention for a start. Anyone know anything?

Think we will have to agree to differ one, but many, many players change position as they get into pro football and go on to thank their manager for spotting their potential in an 'alien' position. What a shame if JH drifts into non league football and this potential is left unexplored.

Yes players do change position like Doherty at Norwich for example.

I very much doubt Herd will drift into non-league, from what I hear he could be making a step up a division in the summer.

herd should be playing but is not because tilson is a joke last season he said herd was not experienced enough - but did not put him out on loan and now to make himself look like a right tit brings in a 18YR old nice one tilly - herd will be playing for a better team next season and yet again it will be another player tilson lets go but does well elsewhere!
