Joe Cole

Did anyone really think he deserved the abuse he got when he went down injured? It was clear he was in a lot of pain, and was not putting it on.

Moreover, he accepted Grant's apology whilst being very injured. There was no attempt to make out that Grant had caused the injury either.

Can some also explain to me why him pulling up a few minutes later was funny? I sure as hell didn't think so. No player would do that unless they were very badly injured, and you could see by the look on his face that it was very painful.

Up until that point, he had been a class act. How he doesn't fall over half the time i'll never know. His feet seem to be glued to the pitch.

all the people that were laughing must of thought it was ashley cole. To be honest j.cole is probably one of the only chelsea players who i like. He has a great attitude and never gives up, i guess you could say he is a poor mans revell!!!

The chorus of "let him die" was probably slightly undeserved as it looked quite serious... as an England player hopefully he'll be back soon enough! Saying that if Ashley Cole had been injured, for some reason I really wouldn't have minded lol...

im sure people who like joe cole were probably giving him stick as well , it was expected that any chelsea player would get laughed at if something happened just have to deal with it

the first time it looked very dramatic. both him and grant changed direction and it seemed he was trying to suggest that grant had pulled him down. he was rolling around and screaming which seemed a bit excessive for an innocuous tumble. however it was obvious the 2nd time he went down that he was hurt.

Yeah to be honest I joined in with the ""let him die" chant but would have done the same for any opposition player really. Its just banter in my eyes. What shocked me more was the chant of "Where's your mother gone?" to Frank Lampard by a select few morons which I was appalled by and refrained from joining.

I'm suprised nobody else has mentioned this... it was sick!!! There was another one about her being eaten by worms... absolutely appauling.

No harm intended, I joined in with the banter too as I was very nearby to where it happened. No-one wants to see any players get injured, but he's one of the best midfielders in the world so it was rather ironic for it to happen at Southend. People were just having a laugh, no malice involved at all.

I have to admit I didn't hear either of those, and i'm glad I didn't.

No, me too, no excuse for that kind of behaviour. I did think Cole was initially play acting rather especially when he came back on so quickly, and I'm afraid I did laugh at the miss the ball scenario purely because it was visually funny. I did applaude him as he went off, like the majority of the Chelsea players, their conduct on the pitch was very gentlemanly - not something you can say very often these days about football.

Coles plural

I think most around me in the East Stand did laugh when Joe Cole pulled up a few moments after the initial tackle as it did look quite dramatic. He was clearly in pain and as I said to a couple of friends it is sad to see this as he could be seriously hurt. After all he is the same player we will cheer for England..... The comment back without expletives was 'well he is not wearing an England shirt now!!'

This is true and like the majority of people I imagine the comments made to be in good albeit 'sick' humour and not really meant to be taken seriously.

Now Ashley Cole is a different matter.....he was given abuse every time he touched the ball, probably due to his Arsenal connections but I feel it should be more of the fact he is a bloody idiot to cheat on Cheryl......why oh why oh why Ashley!!

You deserve the abuse for that fact alone!

Thought that too, after the first incident I could understand people getting a bit irate at him, because it clearly wasn't a foul and it didn't look to bad. The second incident however showed there was clearly something very wrong and all the boos and chants weren't really on. Its all very well calling it banter but when someones lying on the floor in agony it can hardly be called that can it?

I dont think it was deserved, hes a world class ENGLISH player,
anyone how serious the injury is?

Far from being 'an innocuous tumble', it was pretty obvious he had been spun by Grant and twisted his knee.

Except that he already had that leg well up off the ground when Grant spun him around. Watching the replays, it is hard to spot exactly what it is that causes the injury, the only candidate I could see was Grant just caught him on the toe, and his leg might have been jerked by that, but really hard to tell.

perhaps if players only went down rolling around in agony when they were really injured they might get more sympahy ?

I'm not aiming this at Cole in particular, but whoever had gone down would ahve got the same, only for Ashley it would have been far worse

i used to like joe cole but having seen him at stamford bridge, when he crumpled under no contact from any southend player. ok the chanting 'cheerio' was a bit harsh but any chelsea player would have got the same treatment
