Jocky Wright

I've been reading about the Wright family - Jocky, born in Hamilton, Scotland, in 1873, had a decent footballing career, playing for, amongst others, Bolton and The Wednesday (Sheff Weds). At the end of his career, he played for us, 1908-1910, 10 goals in 56 league games as an inside forward. He settled in Southend, became the reserve team coach, and unfortunately died in 1948.

Dougy had two sons: Billy Wright and Doug Wright.

Billy, born in 1900, started his career at Southend, but then moved onto Bolton where he remained for 11 years, before joining Reading. He then became manager of the French side Rouen, before WW2 started. After the war, he was briefly caretaker manager of Leyton Orient.

Doug, born in 1917 in Rochford, played for Southend for a season 1936-7, before moving onto Newcastle and Lincoln. Whilst at Newcastle (where he played before and after the war), he won one England cap against Norway in 1938 http://www.englandfootballonline.com/TeamPlyrsBios/PlayersW/BioWrightJD.html. During the war, he was injured at Dunkirk but recovered. He won the 3rd Division North title with Lincoln in 1951/2. He then went onto manage Blyth Spartans.

Not as well known as the Jacks, but a fine footballing dynasty from Southend...
