Jcr

Bentley's Absurd Gait

Guest
Before I am told this should be in Ex-Shrimpers, let me explain.

JCR was quite often the best player on the park when he wore the sacred Blue, and it was a shame to see him go. However, we seem to be a much better team without him. I don't think he was a massively selfish player, though he kept the ball sometimes when he should have passed, but there was something about his presence in the side that seemed to disrupt our rhythm. I can't quite put my finger on what it was, but how can we explain better results in the promotion season with Bradbury playing wide right instead of JCR? Anyone got any thoughts on this?

Because Bradders put half-decent balls in the box, won more in the air and chipped in with a few goals. JCR was Cristiano Ronaldo without the 35 odd goals and assists!

Good summary.

Thanks!

Agree entirely that he disrupted our rhythm. We are a passing team and he use to take all the pace out of our play by running the ball when it is quicker to ping a pass to a player in space instead.

JCR was like the kid at school in the playground that use to run round and round with the ball and no-one could dispossess. He was great at running away from people, but it is far more useful to actually beat someone and get past them, rather than just changing direction to avoid them.

Also, the amount of time he dwelt on the ball meant many of the team committed themselves forward to be part of the attack. Invariably JCR would then give the ball away and we'd be caught on the break. Conceded many goals like that in the Championship.

The way I see it, Gower may not have half the skills that JCR has but he is twice as good as he scores goals, put decent crosses in the box and can pass a ball.

relegation kiss off death geezer! on a hat trick , still it gets him a move!!!!!

Indeed. Players in the CCC were very quick, but we conceeded a hell a lot of goals at home when caught on the break. Players such as Freddy and Maher jogging back didn't really help though...

JCR always frustrated the life out of me, so much promise but usually zero end product.

Wasn't unhappy he left but was disappointed he did consider staying to get us back up.

Was also a bit puzzled by the fact one of the reasons he wanted to come to us in the first place was he was homesick at Rotherham and then moves back to a similar area when a chance of a move comes along!

The main reason we're doing so much better is no Kevin Maher. Look at the results & team spirit since he's not played. They play as a team & Kev & 10 others.

I'm pleased with what we have now & would not want JCR back. I was gutted when he left, but I think we're a better all round team without him.

JCR is one of the most overated players in SUFC history.

He worked hard but produced no end product.

Personally I was delighted when he left and even more delighted we got money for him.

was glad he went, never set anyone up/crossed/shot he did run about alot and would never doubt his commitment to the team but he never really produced anything(west brom and man u first half aside) if he sorted out his crossing/killer passes then he would be a good player

What makes me laugh the most is that the judas who "kissed the badge" only last year will prob be playing in a league below us next year! Most frustrating player ive seen for ages. All skills and no end product.

Bradbury played the simple ball - usually quite quickly

JCR = over elaborate - no end product. Was evident at Wembley today.

Although I agree with much of what has been said above, however I would like to know what he would have been like for us if we had Walker and Barnard in the team, one player who has the pace to be up with him when he broke forward, and the other who knows how to play the line and will look to get into the box, something we did not have last year. Also his keeping the ball rather than pass it may have been that he was waiting for some to be in position for him to pass the ball to, by the time we got up there it was too late and he was either dispossed or crowded out a ball played. Whenever I saw him play for Jamica he seemed to be able give the opposition a torrid time and make quite a few crosses into dangerous positions.

But it is all ifs and buts.

What a bunch of pants! You can't realistically justify that our uplift in form is mainly due to Maher not being around.

Obviously the fact that we now have 2 decent Strikers has absolutely nothing to with it....

had de ja vu at least ten times today as jcr ran into the corner and lost the ball

deffinately. exactly what I was thinking, kept getting drawn into the centre and leaving so much space on the wing. barely remember him putting in any crosses. only good point about him i thought was that he wanted the ball more than anyone. he didn't do much with it but he wanted it. lol
