James Lawson

palexander

Life President
I doubt I was alone when I let a little quiet groan out as Lawson's name was read out I and realised Gray had lost his fitness battle for this game.

Lawson is young and sure we have to give him a chance, but his cameo appearances recently, whilst fairly impressive, left me with an impression of someone far too light-weight to make it at this level.

James Lawson - I apologise!

What a quality performance from one so young. Very confident, very composed and he showed how much technical ability he has - plus, he found the net!

Aside from the goal, he did little to threaten, but his all round play outside the box was excellent - very skillful and the Oldham defenders didnt know what to do with him - even when they tried to kick him he was too quick and skipped away on another attack.

I think Tilly may have unearthed another gem!

I am still bitterly disappointed that we didnt secure Agogo or anyone else on Wednesday, but still, if we had then we would not of witnessed the start of a possible great SUFC career for Lawson.

Well done James and I'm sure we all wish him the best for the rest of the season with more performances like that!?

Yep, I thought he was excellent today possibly a bit unlucky not to get man of the match! Tilly does it again!

Yeah, well done James - a decent performance. Despite his size he seems to lack a bit of strength on the ball but that's the only area of his game that was lacking today. A very promising prospect.

Hopefully he'll bulk up a bit with age, but even if he doesn't he can use his skill to compensate.

Look at Peter Crouch, he's as thin as a rake yet he's not done too bad in pro football!

Yeah a good performance. Looked comfortable and calm on his debut and although it wasn't a breathtaking performance, he took his goal well and is certainly one for the future and good cover for Gray, Eastwood and Goater.

Hmmm... define breathtaking?

I thought for a young lad making his full league debut that it was a pretty damn good entry to pro football!

Lawson showed loads of cameos of skill, smart passing, clever flicks and powerful running. I for one was well impressed and if Gray is injured again next week, I would now be happy to go into Swindon with Goater and Lawson with Freddy on the bench...

Isn't Freddy still suspended for the Swindon game?

Yeah. BBC, Sky etc were saying today was his last game out but he had a 4 match ban and so far he's missed 3 (Scunthorpe, Col U and Oldham).

Pboreham, what I meant was he wasn't really eye catching. He had a very good debut for a youngster yes, I'm not criticising him at all, I'm just saying he wasn't spectacular.

Yeah he is. Will Lawson start again, i think he probably will!!

what a surprise package Lawson was today, I certainly didn't expect him to win anything in the air let alone outleap their defence like that.

I hope we don't over expose him too much at this early stage, I'd hate to see us making more fodder for the Conference South.

Oops, of course! Ah well, Goater & Lawson with Gray coming off then bench for Swindon!

What a weekend for him. Not only does he score on his ful debut for a club with whom he has risen through the ranks....

In the absence of Prem or Championship matches and with little to discuss concerning Internationals, many readers may have skipped straight to the second half of The Game where they will find a large picture of Lawson nodding in the first goal and being heralded as a promising talent!

Good lad!

Which paper is that in?

Remember seeing him play less than a year or so ago for the U18 and he was awful. Out of all the players to make it I would have had him at the bottom, he was arrogant, lazy and just s%&t.

But wow, how Tilly can develop a player, thought he was excellent yesterday. Good luck to him

Also he tired in the middle of the 2nd half. But that could be down to the heat and that he ran his socks off in the first half. I was very impressed by him. And playing with the Goat as well can only do him good. Good to see youth players given a chance as well. Ok it may of been a forced chance as they was no other strikers but Tilly could of played Smithy up front or Beno or even Spinner as he did towards the end but he didn't. He decided to give the lad a chance and he didn't disappoint. Everyone was saying (including me) that we needed another striker in before the deadline but it seems Lawson could fill the 4th striker spot.
