Jamal Campbell-Ryce....

Richard_Cadette

The Realist
Just a quick comment really about Jamal's performance yesterday. In two words.... ABSOLUTELY OUTSTANDING.

That was his best performance in a Southend shirt since he had been here and for my money one of the best single performances by a Southend player this season.

Adam Drury is one of the best left backs in this league and he was given an absolutely torrid time by Jamal, who must have put in more crosses (and I mean excellent crosses) than the whole of the season put together so far and looked a real threat all day long.

His work rate as we know is always the highest in the squad, but even by his high standards, he must have put in a few more miles today, and at the end was still running like it was the first minute.

I think he deserves to have this post about him as he has a lot of critics on here about his 'no end product' situation.

Yesterday, there was end product, and with a bit more luck and a bit more skill from the front men, then we would have won.

Top performance from Jamal, and indeed most of the others, and if we continue in this vein then who knows?

Great performance from a commited hard-working player. Long may he wear the Sacred Shirt of Shrimperdom!

I feel sorry for the boy... he runs all day, and theres never any sod in the box ...

good post. Even though he is often criticisd for not getting a cross in, he always runs his socks off and is usually our best out ball to take the pressure off the defence. I just wish we would leave him up the field when we are defending corners

Outstanding indeed. Shame the movement of our front 2 was non existent. I cannot believe Hooper didnt start. The guy has done notihng wrong. Harrold, Bradders and Paynter have had 10-11 games each to prove themselves and have not produced the goods. Hooper was brilliant against Leeds in the cup and Man U, he surely deserves a go. Ive never seen such a static, plodding front line as Harrold and Bradders, no point in putting balls in the box if they are not goin to make any effort to connect with them.

But Drury didn't play. JCR was up against someone who doesn't normally play left back. I agree JCR played well - but look at how well Huckerby did when Maher played right back.

yeah good post i couldn't agree more, he played outstanding, by far the best. their left back didn't know what hit him and when he nut-megged him in the 1st half was a class act. well done jcr.

It's a good tactic to keep him back for our corners because if the other lot break quickly, he has the pace needed - as seen yesterday.

Drury wasn't playing, we had a crap midfielder playing at Left back

You are quite right of course, obviously I wasnt putting in the same level of performance as Jamal was when picking out opposition full backs!!

My mistake, however, dont let that detract from what was, as I said, the single best performance, IMO, from a Southend player this season.
