One of Southend Utds former managers get the honour he truly deserves with a twice life size statue outside Wembley. Great player in his day and i am fortunate to be of age to have see him play and then go on to manage us.....although very rarely does it get mentioned of his managerial skills !

Think when our new stadium is built !! we should have our own Bobby Moore statue erected. Along with the other greats of course.

Great player, but he wasn't particularly 'great' as a manager for us. Half the time he didn't even turn up on match days. His pre-match programme comments were qiute funny iirc though.

There was nothing fortunate about seeing us play when he was our manager, sadly. Two of the worst seasons in history - hard to believe I'll grant you after the Alvin Martin era .... I see a theme developing.

In fairness to him, it was starting to improve when he resigned "for personal reasons". But overall he must be viewed as a failure rather than a success as a manager.

The match after he resigned we played Rochdale and beat them 5-0. That was in the days before putting 5 past a team guaranteed our relegation.

But you're right, that season was the turning point for us as the following season we got promotion.
