It's started already....

OlvisIII

Coach
It's already started - 2 hours after our first defeat in 9 games and the criticism has begun. Lewis Hunt should be dropped, Goater is getting special treatment and wholesale changes needed for next week! Tilly said on the website - reality check. Well maybe - but also on here. The boys are doing the business, lets keep the faith rather than ripping them apart boys!!

Look at the league table - pretty good reading!! 8 wins till safety, it's only October!!

Yep well said. 8 wins out of of 9 games and 2nd in the league, did anyone really think we'd be there in October before the start of the season? It's how we respond that counts now, good teams respond well when a good run ends, and at the moment we have a good team. We had to lose eventually and you can't play well every game. I only listened on the radio but it sounded like Donny made it hard for us to play, especially in the 2nd half, so let's just hope for better against Barnsley.

And at least Tilly can get his hair cut now.

Today was not good, but was going to happen. We do now have an excuse for Freddy to start next week that has to happen. Im not going to give complaints today though, it just happens, its sport, its football.

Chin up boys!

I haven't criticised the team yet, but i'm a little surprised how Tilly's responded to this. Saying its a reality check for the Supporters is a little thoughtless, Winning 8 games in a row, beating teams like Oldham, Tranmere, Nottingham Forest whilst demolishing Yeovil in 45 minutes? What did he expect? the fans to still be looking over their shoulders checking how many points from the drop zone we are? Get real...

I don't like to criticise Tilly or the players at all, as they've done an absolutely fantastic job. But, although Doncaster is probably one of the 3 toughest places to go in this League and get points, I can't help but gather from what i've read so far that the game should of been wrapped up by half time, and that it would've done if Eastwood had been playing (his finishing has been clinical in recent weeks)

rant aside, Donny we're picked for promotion in August, and they saying we'll finish high is always good news. I'd say now try something different on Tuesday against Rushden, playing Campbell-Ryce in his natural f***ing position on the right and let Eastwood run Rushden ragged...

I dont think he was out of line at all.

Anyone who thought we were going to win every game from now on, obviously need their heads examined. The thing is Tilson doesnt want the fans to hyped up, otherwise when our bad run comes - and yes it will come, everyone will keep reffering back to how we were top of the league and how the team have let it slip etc.etc.

A mid table finish will be amazing still, and i just hope we can achieve that

Not the greatest performance today, a bit disappointing but it was alwayys going to happen soon. Just a shame it was at a dump like Donny....

Tilly is spot on in his comments IMO. Let's see how the team reacts to this and go on from here. If someone had said we would be second after 14 games after winning 8 on the trot I would have laughed heartily.

Let's gives Rushden the runaround and give JCR and Eastwood the opportunity to earn a place on Saturday

as you say the next few games will be a good guide to how the res of the season could go. The good thing as far as I am concerned is there is no excuse not to start Freddie anymore. Also when your top everyone wants to beat you as Donny proved today so we are better off now!

I totally disagree - I think it would be a disaster. Think we'll ever have a better squad than this with the strength in depth that we currently have? There is a fantastic opportunity to kick on and given that we have a number of players out of contract at the end of the year there are no guarantees that we will have such a talented squad next season. Seize the moment and grab the chance to get promoted while it's there. All this talk of "consolidation" - what the hell does that mean? Settling for mediocrity because that's all we should expect? Live the dream Tilly!

I do think we will have a better team - because if we dont and we do get promoted then we are going straight back down

- its one thing to step up from league 2 to 1 but a whole new ball game from 1 to the championship.

Im sure there are plently more players out there we can bring in if others leave and although i would like to see us get promotion i feel midtable is more the sort of outcome we will achieve

If we go up it will be too soon and we'll be straight back down again which will be counter productive. we do not have the resorces of teams like Hull.

Best bet is a respectable finish this year then we can build for the future and a promotion push next.

what aload of bouncing bollox!
If we are good enough to go up then where good enough...end off!
We've shown in the past 6 weeks how it can be done so why start all this 'happy to be mid table' crap?
nothing ventured, nothing gained!

Well Tilly played a very bad tactical game IMHO today. Yes it is probably down to him the position we are in now, but that doesn't mean that we should be realisitic when in honesty his subsitions probably lost us the game today.
I'm sure we will bounce back but no manager should be saying the fans should get real when they lose, i'm sure Big Sam and Mick Mccarthy wont be saying that tonight.

Lets not start knocking the team or the management team one defeat does not make a bad team but from what I have been hearing the side have been more than a little shabby since Gilling ham away . Before next sat we have the dimonds away in the LDV .I would like to see gimmick prior smith jcm gower petts and lawson all have a run out to sharpen them up and threaten for places .

Let's just be happy we lost so we can focus on dropping down 10 places or so to the mid-table finish we should all be working towards.......

It's like the cat's arse just started talking.

Where did anyone say that?

We're jsut saying dont get to ahead of ourselves, otherwise people like you wont shut up Discussing when if/when we do drop out of the top three or so.

It definetly is a reality check - many people were saying how Donny were committing footy suicide by their tactics, and as it turned out they ended up beating us!

just saying keep your feet on the ground

That's no more bollox than you usually speak, sunshine.

You seriously think that this squad would be able to cut it in the division above? Because we certainly can't afford to improve it to the level that would be required to do so.

I WOULD be happy with mid-table. Perhaps you should look at the 2003-04 season to get some perspective.

Its a reality check for everyone, players included. It had to happen sometime now lets see how the guys respond. I would like to see teh reserve team out v rushden and see how they do.
I wouldnt mind seeing mid tabe eeither, but hopefully we will snap promotion while we have such a fantastic team!

Here we go - one defeat and evryone is at each other throats already. Shocking! We will bounce back Tuesday. It was always goin to b tough game yesterday but think about it -we are nd in League 1 still. 8 wins from 9 games - who else apart from Chelsea can say that throughout every league? We have a team spirit that is unquestionable. So come on - Rushden on Tuesday - I am going and i am sure of a backlash. Coz that is what good teams do! And we are a good team.

And on another point this talk on get promtion/don't get promtion? IMHO I would love to see us in the Championship next season - be a great way to mark our centenary! plus feel we have a squad that would do an ok job. But if we bring in some more quality we would have a very good chnce of doing well. And knowin Ron it would be on a budget. we would not make the same mistakes we hav in the past. everyone fan wants to see their team do the best they can. Remember people thought w would struggle in League 1 - think so far this people are eating their words. and long may it continue

Unbelieveable.

Football is 11 men against 11. And sometimes one of the teams of 11 men will put the little ball thing into the net more times than the other one does.

Every team in the World loses sometimes (apart from Chelsea....). In fact we can probably afford to lose another half a dozen matches and still get promoted. that said I'm firmly in the camp that sees a mid-table finish this year as being a fantastic achievement.
