Is there a bigger ******* hill ??

I've been training for the half marathon i'm running on sunday and tonight was my last run before a nice rest for 3 days in order to rest my poor old knees .

didn't really have a route planned tonight and ended up doing a 6.5 miler which is the norm , however as one last challenge to myself i decided to finish by running up Essex Way , which of those that may not know is the road that runs from Benfleet st up to hadleigh roundabout , past some rich bstards houses and its 1.8 miles or pure hurt.

I have to admit it really hurt tonight and am just wondering is this the most gruelling hill to run up around the Area ..i.e Canvey / Benfleet / Rayleigh /Leigh / Soutehnd ?? if anyone knows any other bad boys i will give it the true test by running it in a few weeks to see if Measures up to Essex way .

Running up and down the hills by the Cliffs on the seafront would give you a good workout, done it before. Be careful they're steep

really short though. whilst it's steep you get respite when running along the top and back down. Essex Way is the biggest biatch of a hill I can think off in the area... another one could be doing Old Leigh diagonally up through Chalkwell/Westcliff

Vicaridge Hill, Church Hill and Thudersley Park Road all in Benfleet. Crown Hill and London Hill in Rayleigh and Leigh Hill in erm Leigh. That lot should lead to a heart attack or early grave. Good luck for the real thing.

where about is this? is that up past the Railway station up to the High St?

Bit further but..

Run from the Wheatsheaf pub in Rettendon (boarded up now:() down to The Bell pub then up that hill, turn around and run back.

I've taken countless football squads for that run and you can count on one hand those who'll still be running at the end.

When I was training seriously we used to do a lot of Hill work in the first couple of months of the year, mind you they were all repetition based so were shorter (we were sprinters)
Sprints up the cliffs , the side road opposite Rayleigh station and the steps at Belton way were the main 3 places.

The distance boys used to use Belton way for their reps, as it was longer

Essex way was a right bugger, on the odd occassion when I was putting in serious stamina work I ran home from Benfleet station to Shoebury one night a week, Essex way has a stinker to start the run with

The hill up the side of Hadleigh castle is another good one for reps, but you have to do a greater number of reps at a slower speed as the ground underfoot is a little too uneven for sprinting

Try running up the steps at the side of Leigh church (from the Old Town to the Broadway) , it's not long but very steep. Do that a few times and you will know it --- kills me just walking up it.

Bread and cheese hill?

Surprising enough i find B+C hill fine , its actually not that long and either is Church hill , although it is steep . Our football team Run the Cliff Pavillion steps every pre season and its speed stamina which is not wht i need , think i will stick with Essex Way but maybe bang it out straight away while i'm fresh instead of 5 miles in .

Only been training for 2 months and my training partner has lost 17 kg's which in anyones book is **** hot , its also given me a added respect i know have for the Marathon Runners that literally sprint round in 2hrs something , in fact i have a massive respect for them guys now .

My time for the half will be looking at 1 hr 48 if i run at my current capacity , which i don't think is too bad , will see me come in the top 500 runnuers on Sunday fingers crossed .
