Is League One better or worse than you expected ?

Rayleigh boy

it now seems to me that the CCC was a different planet - watching us get caught by skilful fast breaking teams week after who could always finish -

and now the best we've seen is the horrible O Thornton compared with the likes of Upson, Bale, Noble etc last year.

for me it is worse than i remembered -

Hasn't changed much IMHO.

The thing I've noticed is that its less physical. You expect a drop off in ability, and 3rd division players are less clinical than their 2nd division counterparts, but the stereotype would be for the 3rd division to be more physical.

It's about the same standard as I remember, but I didn't think the standard among the bottom half of the championship was that great either...

Standard has been pretty poor so far. Orient had nothing other then the cheat Thornton, Millwall were reliant on a striker past his best at this level 3 years ago, and Cheltenham and Gillingham looked woeful.

We were lucky that when we won this division all the other teams were much of a muchness and took points off each other, allowing us to go up with a reletively low points tally. Hopefully this season is shaping up to be similar.

Pretty mediocre teams, not any difference to last time round. Vast difference from ccc to lge 1 IMO

From what I've seen the standard is much poorer than the Championship. Didn't think Orient or Millwall were up to much, Gills appeared to be awful and it's only late collapses at Leeds and Brighton stopped us getting points.

Don't think we'll win it again but feeling a bit more confident after the Watford and Gills results of reaching the play offs

The difference that I have found so far is that in the championship if you make a simple mistake in or around the box you get punished for it which usually ends up in the opposition scoring. In league 1 you get away with a lot more (not always) but the quality is no way as good.

So most teams have one half decent player then...

A bit like us when we were champs of L1. The difference between us and other teams was Eastwood!!!;)

Same as before. I thought it was a poor division when we won it last time and think the same from what i've seen so far this season.

No, Orient had Thornton who was decent, Millwall, Cheltenham and Gilligham had no one who I would take for our team. I was just saying Millwall are relying on harris to get them goals which, seeing he is past it, is unlikely to help them.

Poor standard so far

Certainly no worst than before.

The gulf between L1 and CCC is generally quite big and its certainly true that if you have one quality striker its enough to lift you out of this division.

Thats probably what undid us as 1 quality striker isnt enough to keep you up there.

Its still not going to be plain sailing though, we have a pretty strong squad but without Freddy's goals its going to be a far bigger challenge to finish in the top 6.

$hit! Are we back in League One? I thought we were in the Championship. Anyone know when Freddy is due back from the injury he must have at the moment that is keeping him out of the team?

What do you think the chances of Col Ewe winning promotion from the Conference this season are?

This year? Leeds and Flo?

Dont think so .... Flo is old and injuryed all the time - just our defencing fcuk up make him look good - Flo of 1999 would be world class at League 1 not Flo of today.

Southend got stronger squad than the side won League 1 in 2006.
