Whilst it is very encouraging that we have so many games against teams from the bottom half remaining, the current tables certainly show we'll have to buck our ideas up (ranked on points per game):

Games against top half teams:
P W D L CS FtS F A GD Pt PPG
1 Birmingham City 14 9 3 2 7 2 21 11 +10 30 2.14
2 Preston NE 17 8 4 5 5 3 25 19 +6 28 1.65
3 Cardiff City 15 6 6 3 5 3 23 19 +4 24 1.60
4 West Brom Alb 16 7 4 5 4 5 21 17 +4 25 1.56
5 Southampton 15 5 7 3 5 4 17 14 +3 22 1.47
6 Colchester Utd 16 7 2 7 4 4 23 19 +4 23 1.44
7 Stoke City 14 5 4 5 5 5 14 14 0 19 1.36
8 Derby Co 16 6 3 7 4 4 18 22 -4 21 1.31
9 Southend Utd 18 6 4 8 3 7 18 28 -10 22 1.22

Games against bottom half teams:
17 Leicester City 15 6 3 6 4 4 17 18 -1 21 1.40
18 Hull City 16 6 4 6 5 6 17 18 -1 22 1.38
19 Barnsley 16 7 1 8 5 4 21 26 -5 22 1.38
20 Norwich City 14 5 4 5 2 3 24 25 -1 19 1.36
21 Luton Town 14 5 3 6 4 6 18 20 -2 18 1.29
22 Leeds Utd 15 5 3 7 4 3 18 22 -4 18 1.20
23 Queen's Park Rgs 16 5 3 8 3 5 21 28 -7 18 1.13
24 Southend Utd 14 1 6 7 5 8 14 20 -6 9 0.64

So even after trouncing QPR we still have an abysmal record against our fellow strugglers (albeit having played most of them away). Will have to make sure that trend is now reversed. Though it's encouraging how good we are against the stronger teams!

Yep, but most of those results were when we were in our 17 game awful run.

Id like to see how we would do against Hull at home now...

That means little, as we have not been playing teams at the bottom, since we bucked our ideas up!!

Bar QPR, and we saw what heppened there!!

Ignore the stats, it's how you play on the day that counts....I'm sure that the stats would have been against us at, Birmingham say..........., relax and enjoy.

The statistics can only show where we have been this season, not where we are going! They certainly sound a cautionary note for us and we can't take anything for granted but we are in a good run and if we can dominate the teams at the bottom with us when we play them then I think we will be alright ... just. We have learned a great deal about what it takes to win in the CCC so hopefully the stats will look very different come the end of the season.

Surely thats the point. Our bad run was when we were playing the lower teams which may have contributed to it.

I dont think so, we just took a long time to settle at this level, and needed players like Sodje and McCormack.

If we were to start the season tomorrow and play all those lower teams again Ive no doubt we would get far more points.

Well we only lost 3 of the 1st 8 which shows we settled fairly quickly. However, the addition of McCormack was vital but due to the nature of his, and Kevs game, I fear we will be missing one or both through supsension later in the sason. Hopefully Tillys got a central midfield loanee lined up.

There's two ways to look at it:

a) We didn't pick up many points because we're bad against bad teams. Remeber in that run of games we drew with Preston and Plymouth at home and Burnley and West Brom away.

b) We're playing much better now than back then and with our elevated level of play, we'd beat the teams now.

I'm a fan of b) but I think there's an element of truth in a)

You should be a spin doctor !

Only losing 3 in 8 sounds good, only winning 2 in our first 21 games gives us a far more realistic picture.

We had a couple of good results, at the very beginning, but we never got going until December.

Definitely B !

Any team would have beaten us in the 17 game run, Id love to take them on again now.

Its must be the Yellow ball! Southend best spell of the season when we use the Yellow ball between November to March!

I thought that the topic was 'Interesting reading'??

Yet there is no mention of what a good job Steve Coppell is doing or whether or not Leroy Lita should be in the England squad?!?!

Oh well.....:) :) :) :)
