In a Sporting Context who do you hate the most?

Who do you consider the biggest sporting enemy?

I used to play a little.
Sporting hatred - Brought about by recent media commentary such as "Australia, the old enemy." The commonwealth games where Great Britain represent their home country.

Defeating which nation would cause you most joy? Or Defeat against which nation would cause most hurt?

You decide!

There are different answers to both in the same sport, let alone in different sports!

E.g. rugby - I can't stand losing to the Welsh, because I know the boyos love to beat England more than anyone. Beating them, however, feels like our bounden national duty, so I don't get wildly excited when that happens - unlike (say) beating the Aussies.

In football, I'm really not that fussed whether we beat Australia or not (OK, so it's nice to beat them, but I don't cry into my beer when doing so, largely because I suspect most Aussies are fairly indifferent to the result); but Argentina, on the other hand...

On balance, it's probably Australia (on the basis that I care about international cricket more than I care about any other international sport) - but it's a tough question!

Matt

PS I'm also not sure about "hate the most". I don't hate that Aussies - I want England to beat them but that's because, as cricketers, I respect them.

Im going for teh Aussies simply because of the amount of sports we play against them and how seriously they take it and how crushing a defeat is for them :D

I went for the convicts. They have dominated many a sport in the noughties and they have taken all our jobs here in London so that added to why I like to beat them at sport.

Has to be the sweaties for me. They define themselves by their hatred of the English (and that they wear skirts, and their biggest hero is an Australian alcoholic wife beater), so every time we crush them, it makes their pathetic existence just that little bit more meaningless.

What on earth do you respect about the current Convict side?

Also, the only reason why the Convicts don't care about football is because they're not good enough to beat us in a meaningful game at it. Were this to somehow change, you can bet your bottom Aussie dollar (complete with picture of our queen, long may she rule over them) that they would pretend to be huge football fans.

Not much, to be fair(*). I'm talking about Aussie cricket in general, over the years, in which they've produced some of the greatest cricketers ever to have played the game.

(*Which will make losing to them - which we will, 2-1 - all the bitterer a pill to swallow)

Matt

I hate the Irish the most, because suddenly, when we lose to them, every f*8ker i know is suddenly x% Irish.

its like, well hold on, you;re 75% English, but 25% irish, yet you;re supporting Ireland? Statistically that makes little sence. Thats like saying the whole of your body is white, except for a brusied foot which is a bit blue, and describing yourself as being blue!

In this instance I would encourage you to not live in the past, but to relish the present which saves us from having to acknowledge that they were once rather good.

(until we lose 2-1, when we need to remember 2005/1981 etc)

easy for me, the germans, this was renewed after going on holiday this year and there were loads of them about, boring sods

Off topic, but I like Germans at the minute. Mainly because the chick who served me in Monchengladbach McDonalds last night was F.I.T.

I'm with MtS about the Welsh and rugby.

The Scots at football. In 1967 after beating World Cup holders England they laughingly claimed to be World Champions, *****.

...and Australia at almost anything else.

I wouldn't fancy our chances at the moment, especially with Ashley Cole at LB :hilarious:
