If we stayed in League One

I pray to the God that is Tilly that we'll go up this year and we're in a great position to do so. However, say we end up still in League One next year how dya think we'd fare? Obviously whatever happens we've been one of the strongest teams in the division this year but would this necessarily be the same next season? I'm only saying this because sometimes you can do too much too soon and Id hate for us to go up next year, be comprehensively beaten every other week and the following season struggle back in League One. Know this post is bloody pessimistic but would we rather go up this year knowing we might not be strong enough to stay there or in a few seasons when we've developed the squad some more. Discuss....

Very true...we would lose the surprise factor maybe we carried with us after our promotion from league 2 last year. Who remembers the so called big teams fans and/or manager saying "we should be steamrollering teams like southend."

How wrong they were...fingers crossed we could do the same again in the championship with teams taking the 3 points available against us as a given.

The main point of my original post was with 2 successive promotions we have a squad with a lot of players that may not be good enough for the championship....yet. We already struggle in this league competing with Swansea, Forest and even Bristol City in attracting players due to wages...this would be amplified in the Championship.

Still want us to go up...just wondered what people thought

The thing that has frustrated me the most this season is the sentence

''we don't want to go up this year, we should stay down and build the squad''

What a load of tosh.

(I know that's not what the original post said, but i'm just comparing).

Getting promoted is all part of the chase, which is what the whole game is about. We want to be playing at a higher level and if we're top with 8 games to go we should be looking at finishing the job off.
I hope we do it.

I agree mate if we go up this year then I'll be loving it...and Ron has promised Tilly funds to try and keep us in the Championship. I'm glad that we didnt panic buy earlier in the season on players such as Fallon, etc who would have demanded high wages but perhaps may not have made a significant enough impact to warrant the investment.

Tilson has always bought wisely and is starting to build a good reputation within the Football league as well respected young boss. Hopefully this will begin to attract some bigger names to the Hall and help keep us in the league we all want to be part of.

yep, its getting scary now that you don't want your worst nightmare come true when we mess it up. In last 10 season in League One, NO ONE, I say NO ONE who is clear at top at this stage and end up missing promotion altogether, if that happen, we are the first one to blew it from this postion.

I don't want last season all over again, 3 more win would settle my nerves.

This what team like Ar*enal, W@nk-Ham, Spurs & Man U manager want when they loans their reserve players for first team experince & players who near the first team but need games to build up fitness. I hope that can happen once we are playing wolve, Derby & Birmingham again.

We SHOULD be going up from here.

I think Saturday is a much bigger game than we think. A bounce back from the MK Dons disaster is exactly what we need, and if we get three points i can't see us not reaching that magic 85.

I also think this season is totally different from last season. Then, we had a late season surge and before we knew it found ourselves top with 3 games left (bear in my last season we didn't actually top the league until early April, whereas this year we've been top pretty much since early October).
Last year i feel the players froze, got a bit too complacent and ended up throwing it away. This year we know what to do, and i think we'll do it.

So in effect we are like Yeovil last season...so hopefully we'll beat Swansea at their place 1-0 in a game they dominate. Had to watch that sitting next to my yeovil supporting mate who was very smug on the way home...not bitter or anything

IF we stay in league 1, I reckon we'd struggle a bit, a la Tranmere or Hartlepool, as our confidence would take a knock

What ive noticed especially in the lower leagues(1 and2) is that almost every team have a good shout at getting promoted. We were struggling out of div 3a few seasons ago and following yr we went up which is the same story as scunny. This year grimsby and oreient are up there when they struggled last season. Its very much wide open and i bet you 5 or so differnet teams will be battling for promotion next season

I think we're up but if the worst should happen then we could rue the missed opportunity. In some ways we got promoted at the right time as your usual suspects and bookies favourites, every year, Brizzle City, Gills, Swindon, Tranmere etc etc have all had mares. Team like Brizzle and Tranmere will spend in the summer and ensure next season they do a lot better.

Us not going up now is too horrible to even think about. It was a horrible feeling ending up in the play offs last season and the thought of not going up. Thank goodness we went up in the end.
I am confident we will go up this season and hopefully as Champions.

That's the thing now though. I don't just want promotion I want us to win the league as well. Having got to where we are at this piont in the season it would a shame if we couldn't. It would make up for 90/91 big style.

One good thing about going up would be that theres more southern teams is there not? Would be great to goto portman road and carrow road.

Yep despite the pessimism in yesterdays post id already thought about that as well as trips to luton and possibly watford. Hopefully Byfield wont get too sentimental after those goals last night and will come to us in the summer. After Brentford's defeat last night things are looking pretty rosy all of a sudden (if they werent before )
