If There's Bad News Tonight ??

I have to admit to having little interest in National Party Politics, and less still in Local Government stuff, but if we have bad news tonight, when are the next local elections and what are the chances of organising some tactical voting and removing the main protagonists from office ?? Maybe a knee-jerk reaction and in the short term one that wouldn't help with any predicament we may find ourselves in tonight, and also one i couldn't help with as i live in Southend, but sending a clear message to the wanna be polititians that us fans can have a say in the make up of the local councils.

Thoughts, anyone ???

Think they were last held in 2005 so I calculate that makes the next set of local District Council elections due for May 2009. RDC is mainly Conservative.

Think that knee is jerking a little to early!

Last I heard Rochford Councillors were behind the project. Theres the infamous recommendation to reject but seeing as the recommendation yesterday was to defer I wouldnt be surprised if its agreed.

After the last report we had people saying we should vote out our MP's and asking why the council wanted the club to die. Then it gets agreed 13-0.

Tonight may raise some issues to resolve but I doubt any will stop the stadium or be things Ron Martin cant get sorted.

if it does get the go ahead tonight then that mean building will begin in three months time!

Eeeerrm dont wan't to pee on your parade so to speak, but...

The plans need to go before Ruth Kelly first and it will take at least 6-8 week's for her to make a decision, a decision which should in theory be a positive one, but it could also be a negative one, which could mean a public enquiry and a whole host of other bollox which could delay the stadium for a long, long time.

But, saying that I'm sure it will all go smoothly and the diggers will move on-site around May 2007.

It's something that had crossed my mind although officers have virtually backed councillors into a corner to an extent so it will be on officers advice if it is refused, rather than elected members.

I am not confident - the issue of green belt is always defended ferociously by Rochford IIRC and that is the issue tonight. There are bound to be points raised about eroding the 'green lung' between Rochford and Southend-on-Sea still further.

From reading Ron Martin's words in today's Echo, it sounds like a 'no' vote tonight would be a blow but not a terminal one.

I'd be surprised if it was turned down now, regardless of the recommendation. The pressure to say 'yes' must be almost overwhealming now.
