Give tilson a decent wage budget rather then a transfer budget as I think Tilson gets the best out of players that have fallen on hard times etc...

No brainer for me this.... If you don't have the transfer budget to sign better players then you will only ever be limited to a certain calibre of player. This is a dead end quote.

lol what the hell you talking about!!!

Give Tilson the chance to spend more on wages, many times we have missed out on a decent player because we could not or would not pay the wages.

you quote no figures so your post lacks validity!
I presume you were suggesting next to no transfer budget! as we have none at the moment and you said less and more on wages.
So what I am talking about is that whilst you may want to offer more on wages you are only limited to free transfers. Therefore the quality of player will not be as great as when paying a fee. There will be less players available with your idea.

Simples......

Ron : Steve I have 1m to spend from some chest I have found

Now would you rather Tilson be given that as transfer money or should it be plowed into better wages historiacly with money Tilson has not done so well.

Whatever player we get will cost us a certain amount, whether its signing on fees, wages or transfer fee.

It goes without saying if we dont have to pay transfer fees we will be able to spend more on salaries, but even then the salaries need to be within the clubs structure.

Theres no point us paying a new player 5k per week and upsetting the rest of the squad...

You split 1million out. You spend it on a player you think will add to the squad. The rest can go on wages. It is not either or.

How do you derive to the fact he has not done so well with Money.

would sell any1 before we buy go to many players on champ wages. francis
and would sign dervite on loan and campbell on a free
wouldnt buy anyone would only loan 1 or 2 then well have our own team playing together in advance of next season

Totally agree with you TB. Wages are more important than transfer fee's, a player isn't attracted to play for you by the fee you're willing to pay but by the wages you'll pay him.

Billy "Peter Taylor said he's a catch" Paynter, Richie "How's your wife" Foran are the first two to spring to mind, the latter costing an on the record 1mill+

add to that 300k on peter clarke (poop in my opinion) I believe we actually paid for matt harrold and 150k on Revell and the original point of the thread actually makes some sense, tilly was given a few quid to keep us in the champ (I know it was still small change in terms of other champ clubs) and bought the wrong people IMO, dont get me wrong I actually believe the sun shines out of tillys bottom and with hindsight added clarke/barrett never worked as a partnership, harrold wasnt a great buy, paynter was poop, foran a complete ****, in fact putting the back four together of Hammell, Barrett,Clarke and francis is probably what cost us in the end, pretty decent individualy but together they were poo

Harrold
Paynter
Foran
Clarke
Ricketts

Bar Clarke who was overpriced (a lot), the rest above were AWFUL decisions on Tilson's part. On this record, and the effect it had on our squad (not improving it and costing us relegation), who would employ Tilson?

Can I just say that's pretty much what he's got, Martin has said we pay one of the top amounts wage wise about a year ago (top 6 or so) and we haven't spent much money on transfers recently.

I don't know if I've mellowed a bit but I honestly don't remember Foran being THAT bad, it's just he blotted his copy book quite early on (and got sent off IIRC) that there wasn't a chance to prove anything. Sorry that's not ******* up to Ant or anything - honest!!!

I remember hoping so much that he would be good, in fact I convinced myself at the time that he was ok, and I told myself that I liked him as a player.

But in the end, and looking back, I think he was a poor player. Compared to the other strikers/wingers in league one let alone the Championship(which he was bought for - the 'saviour'!) he's not up to standard. He was a hard worker, but like Revell, just doesn't have the natural ability (at all!)
