He must be cracking on a bit now. I am more worried about Lambert and the African guy they have on loan from Fiorentina to be honest.

In the championship I soon came to realise that names mean nothing. We have been destroyed but unknowns and yet I saw players with big repuations who were pretty crap.

Connolly was released by Sunderland in the summer and has only just signed for a league one club. He was on trial at QPR and watched by Carlisle but neither signed him. Sounds like a bit of a gamble by Pardew to me. He didn't play at all last season and only 5 games the previous in 2007-08.

He was a great player, but he's now 32 has been plagued with injuries and has only played 5 games in 2 seasons - presumably he'll struggle to last 90 minutes. I bet he'snot cheap either - huge gamble by Pardew, glad we didn't sign him.

(Cue a hat-trick from him tonight!)
