I AM GLAD WE HAVE A SOLID DEFENCE

I am really glad that we have what on paper seems to be a very solid defence.I have to say that barrett is probably the worst of the bunch and is still a good player at this level. We really are going to rely on our defence this season as there are some mighty fine strikers in our league this year.

Hear are the best that spring to mind.

Mooney
Bradbury
Michael branch
michael reddy
Jamie forrester
Lee steele
Darryl clare
luke rodgers

And i know there are more out there!! We will need a tight defence this year for sure. Glad we signed spinner now!!

I wouldn't worry about any of those. The ones to watch out for will be the donkeys that used to play for us.

I have said this many times and believe it is the way to go for Southend United...

The best form of defence is attack!!!

I believe that our defence will be solid this year with intelligent positioning and as long as our midfield don't go missing as in the odd occasion last year, our defence will have decent back up when needed... I would say Dudfield is better than two or three of the players you mention here and suspect he will have a good season with Drewe in the side.

Suspect there will be "away", but not too sure about at home! I think we will be a force to be reckoned with at the Hall.

Fortress Roots Hall.

Blimey, when was the last time those three words were said in the same sentence!

if he can stay fit i'm sure Lee Trundle will be up amongst the top goalscorers again.
Of the list mentioned i think Mooney is the best player, he's certainly been a regular at his previous club where as most of the others are only at this level because its their only chance of 1st team football.

Or when someone said "Roots Hall is hardly a fortress these days" anytime in the last nine years or so.

to make RH a 'fortress' we have to make plenty of noise, as tilly said we have a lot of players in the side that need plenty of encouragement so no derisory comments tomorrow people its only the first game of a long season, things will take time to gel. So get those vocal chords primed and sing up louder than ever tomorrow, we will play as much of a part in us hopefully getting out of this god forsaken league as the players themselves. remember, noise = increased level of performance!!. Heres to a loud, sunny day at the mecca, with 3 points in the bag by 4.45pm!!... SING UP SOUTHEND!!

Quite recently... but they were usually preceeded by the words 'our ground can no longer be called...'
