Howard Kendall

Sad day indeed. Part of Everton's 'Holy Trinity' midfield and also their greatest ever manager. My Mum's an Everton fan and never tires of telling me of his exploits.

Hoping to see a fitting tribute if not on MOTD tonight then certainly soon.

very sad,Everton could-may have been the best team in Europe,if it was not for heysel....great day-efc v rap.wien

Also a great player.

Fulham's finest hour (IMO) was winning at Everton in the FACup in 1975 against a midfield of Ball,Harvey and Kendall.

RIP Howard.

PS - this is no thread for nitpicking I know but Alan Ball left for Arsenal in 1971. So was the game you refer to an earlier one, or was someone else other than Ball in the midfield?

Some lovely and well deserved tributes in the papers and on the telly over the last couple of days. It had passed me by that he was only 38 when Everton won their first league title under him. Two years older than me - I better get my skates on.

This is splendid. Howard Kendall was in the same youth football team as Bryan Ferry!

and Kendall moved to Birmingham in 1974. Everton's midfield in that game was Mike Bernard/Mick Buckley/Dave Clements/ Martin Dobson

Didn't check the line up before I posted. But I'm certain that both Harvey and Kendall played in that 1975 game.

Rather reminded me of my own mortality too.:cricko:

Ha! I have to admit I was concentrating more on Fulham's line up that day.Age obviously did the rest.

Buckley,Dobson and Clements were useful players though.
