How Patient Is Ron..

This has been on my mind and many of yours im sure...how patient is ron when it comes to poor results and wielding the axe on managers.

Its clear to see tilly has bought great amount of sucsess to this club, and ron has cashed in on this and rightly so. And im sure he has built a good relationship with tilly. but how hasty will ron be when weilding hes axe?

when u also bring into the equation the following big money signings that have failed for whatever reasons,

Foran
Paynter
Ricketts
Harrold
Walker (still here but for over 100k not money well spent so far)

and gone on to be sucsessfull at other clubs. It is of my opinion Ron's patience may be running out.

Eh? Harrold wasn't a big money signing. He cost about £20,000 and his wages were cheap.

Paynter was off-loaded for a small loss, so no real issue there. Ricketts was a free transfer and his wages were being paid at least in part by his former clubs and was I thought a Ron Martin signing anyway.

Walker's goals in the FA Cup make him a bargain.

The only big money failures have been Foran and Clarke.

the fact is tilly has struggled to bring in players recently with reputations and bring them reputations into our team.

it seems we bring a player in who has ability, such as hooper or foran. and then we say we know your good at playing up front,,, but we are going to put you on the wing.

what is the reason why hooper for example, and harrold to some extent play so much better when they are not in our team?

Harrold plays much better when he isn't in our team because he doesn't have morons like you destroying his confidence.

Foran was signed to play wide left and had been playing that position all season for Motherwell when we had scouted him.

I'd rather Tilly signed players who'll make their reputations at Southend, like Eastwood and Bailey. I also want him to bring through the youth at the club.

u havnt answerd my question, why have so many players with potential (especially up front) simply failed? and then showed what they can do when they move on..

Not every player is going to be a success. For every Hooper there is an Eastwood, for every Ricketts there is a Goater, for every Foran there is a Gray, for every Harrold there is a Barnard.

Ashingdon, are you a manic depressive in real life too? (with respect!)

Mate, you are becoming the new TTK,only coming on to moan when we lose and calling for Tilson's head each time.I think if i took to heart everything you said i'd never have renewed my season ticket!

C'mon son,try and be positive about something eh.Just once perhaps?

Good defence starts in attack, good attack starts in defence. If a team is struggling at the back they will struggle when they go forward. If the midfield aren't in the mindset that they need to be defensive because the defense is struggling, then they get further forward and a more attacking mentality breeds more chances and more space for the forwards.

If you want to use Harrold as an example he is playing in a team top of League 2 who have the oppo fearing them from the kick off, so as the oppo sit off the midfield dont need to defend as much and attack more creating more chances and space for the forwards. If we start to put a decent string of results together all of a suddent he space opens up and the strikers look world beaters again... but it starts at the back and from what i read recently thats where we struggle at the moment

We paid £50,000 for Harrold but again not a big money signing, plus I think we got most of it back when he signed for Wycombe obviously without his wages.

maybe just maybe uncle ron should forget the new stadium marlacky and give tilly decent funds to use during the window.

massive new stadium will be pointless if the club are in league 2.

Must be a turmoil Ron contemplates every day. I think he will hold his nerve and his belief that the stadium WILL allow us to be a CCC club will see it through - even if we do end up in League 2 in the meantime.

At the same time, look at the amount of teams in League 1 and 2 with nice stadiums that mean nothing (aside Leicester and Leeds), you've got sides like Darlo, Huddersfield, Notts County, Millwall, Bradford, Swindon etc - all with big grounds/new grounds that have really meant nothing to their relative success.

The risk is we get the shiny new ground, fill it less than a third and bum around leagues 1 and 2 for the next 10 years... :(

I don't think he can afford to forget the new stadium, he needs the revenue from the retail outlets so I'd say it's full steam ahead on that count.

We actually paid between £90,000 & £100,000 for Harrold.

As for the original question I imagine Ron is pretty annoyed that we are dropping like a stone at Christmas yet again. We went through this last year and I seem to recall him being interviewed after a defeat early on in January stating how he was desperate do sort it out and that we'd had a bid accepted for Rory Fallon, and another 2 bids over £200,000 in for other players. Thankfully the near on £300,000 bid for Calvin Andrew fell through, but Ron I'm sure does not want to consolodate this year like he didn't last. I'd imagine if this shambles on the pitch continues that we'll go through the same again this year and Ron will make various statements and try desperately to bring in players in January. No doubt though a lot of people on here won't believe that even if he does say it and will still question what he wants from the club.

Wasn't Ricketts free? Didn't we release him for being overweight. I heard he was on quite high wages for a SUFC player.

...in your opinion.

Completely agree. At the end of the day, if Ron's only incentive is business (which I don't believe it to be) it doesnt change much as the only way he is going to make money is by the club being successful

Apart from share of gate receipts, we are also due a reasonable pay day in the share of prize fund from the Football Asscoiation, if eliminated in the 3rd round.

Anyone done any research to know how much that is ?
