How much?

How much should I be looking to spend on a solid scorer?

I have 2 solid scorers but they are both getting on and I wanted some cover.

I'm not training scoring so am not interested in youngsters, more btwn 24-29.

I followed a few players to see how much they went for but it's varied from 40-150k. Wondered which was more realistic 40 or 150k?

Cheers.

Depends on age & passing ability, really.  If you're just looking for cover, why not recycle some old 'uns.  You can pick up 31-32 year olds for peanuts - sub 10K, I should have thought.

Alternatively, if he's going to play a lot, go for future coach material.  At least passable leadership, and then you'll have to work it out between age and experience (e.g. 24 / poor exp, 25 / weak exp?) what to go for.

To give you a guide, the last potential coach I sold (passable exp & passable leadership - he was also and excellent PM), I bought for £84K and sold him about 3 or 4 seasons later - after much excellent service in between - for £400K.  So they can be a good investment.

Hope that helps.

Matt
