How much longer...

are we going to play Tommy Black for? The guy has had a number of stinkers in the last few weeks and the time has surely come to drop him for grant/moussa/walker (on the wing with Revell upfornt). He is overweight, loses the ball constantly and does not scare defenders one bit

Have to disagree.

Why he was substitued for revell instead of walker, I will never know.

Black actually looked like scoring today, and I'd rather have him in the team, than walker going by todays performance.

I like the look of Black, and the fact that even though he has bad days, some of his chances do end up being dangerous.

I could be watching totally different games, mind you. :)

Both Black and Walker had stinkers today. I honestly couldn't argue for either of them, they should both have been subbed in my opinion.

I have to disagree as well, I think Tommy Black has had, and is still having, a very productive season with us.

He is the best crosser of a ball in our side, and while not possessing the kind of pace to get past a defender, he almost always managed to get the ball in by giving himself half a yard to cross it. Another thing I've noticed with him is he always managed to find space to receive the ball in - a sign of a player who has played at a higher level.

No, he wasn't at his best today, but it's the nature of the beast - unless your name is Christiano Ronaldo, all wingers have inconsistent periods, and to be fair, he doesn't have many!

Replacing him with Revell and putting Jimmy to the right wing was not a great idea, especially as he was already in the process of having a stinker, and I would have preferred to see just Jimmy replaced by Revell, but no way should we be dropping Black.

Strange post - Black had an average game today, but looked up for it and it should have been JW (who looked a bit tired due to some first half running which went nowhere - not all his fault) rather than TB who was subbed, and TB has played well in our unbeaten run.

Even with Black off form at the moment, IMO he still offers more offensively than Moussa or Grant. Moussa's at his best at CM and Grant is better to bring on when we need to protect a lead. Walker needs to be played up with Barnard.

Maybe Revell could be tried on the wing? Not sure.

Anyway, as I've said before, as we are now unbeaten for 12 games we should leave the team alone, unless it goes tits up.

Still say that any other winger suffers when Gower's on top form by comparison. It happened with JCR and others before. Tommy was let down by his own first touch today and wasn't alone in this. He still has the capability to cause problems when the ball comes to him which isn't that often at present as most times it goes to Gower or Bailey/Macca.

Just think the way the game was going yesterday gave Tilly an ideal opportunity to give Grant / Moussa (or both) a decent run-out , we're gonna need them at some stage.

Difference is though, Walker had one off day and he has been really good for us in previous matches and we all expect a player to have the odd off day. Black has been more consistently poor in the last few matches and the time has come to bench him and get him on weight watchers.

I read on another thread earlier about this need for a so-called scapegoat ... we didn't win yesterday (for a change) and the wailing and teeth gnashing is plenty evident .. i dread to think what it'll be like should we lose anytime soon :stunned:

FWIW i think the thing Black offers us more than anything is balance ... much like Carl Pettefer a few seasons back, not the greatest player, but does a good job on the whole

Can we nip this sort of sniping in the bud before it get a head of steam? fwiw Tommy lifted his shirt at Crewe and my daughter, and other females in the stand were treated to the sight of a very impressive torso. Lets leave the Fat B'Stard comments to the opposition fans and stick to supporting the team.

It was actually a bit of a joke - after everyone was saying he was overweight. Some people on here take things far too seriously! The main point I was making is that even though Walker had an off day, I would take him over Black who has been more consistently poor. Without being nasty, he could stand to loose a few pounds though although I dont think its a massive issue.

Although did anyone see the number 19 for Northampton, absolute porker dont know how he ran with that jelly bum!

Tom's muscular rather than overweight though. As he's fairly small he's gonna look bigger - but it's muscle rather than fat.

Black and Walker didn't have the best of games but no one goes out with the intention to play badly, so you just need to get behind them for the next game.
They are both confidence players with very little confidence atm.

I think this sums it up... Tommy is our best (only) option on the right wing atm and he has been involved in every game of this run he doesn't deserve some of the criticism he is getting on here! I feel a bit sorry for him. We have seen the odd sparkling performances from him but on the whole theres no doubt despite the teams good run he himself isn't in the best vain of form but we had the same with Gower and he turned it around! Everyone has highlighted the fact that hes hasn't been providing enough cover and at times he has easily lost the ball but he didn't have the worst game yesterday... McCormack was screaming abuse at him and as others have mentioned I worry this damages his confidence yet further!!!

Agreed, people were saying Gower should be dropped a few weeks ago and now look at him.

Wingers are confidence players and Id rather Black given a chance to get back into form, and theres no one worth playing in his position anyway.
