"Hope I die before I get old"

Unfortunate also that fewer and fewer families are taking care of their old folk themselves for a variety of reasons. I know a lot are fiercely independent but there comes a time for many when it's best for all to give in graciously and accept that it's no longer advisable to live alone. If only our children weren't finding it so difficult to fly the nest there might be more space for aged relatives to stay because it's absolute;y clear as day that the prices charged in retirement homes are quite extortionate.

The words of that '60's Who song,My Generation,(one of my favourites from that era),seem more appropriate that ever.Unfortunately.

Regretfully true. Bad enough having to look forwards to an allotment growing out of my ears and nose, teeth falling out, going deaf, and suffering from arthritus, rheumatism etc, without living in poverty which a lot of us will end up doing through no fault of our own.
I recall 25 years ago being encouraged to save for old age, and the estimated pension fund you'd accumalate looked very attractive. Alas, we all know what has happened in recent years to all these, similar to endowment mortgages, and that nice little nest egg which would keep us comfortable in old age, has gone up in smoke for many. Happy new year!

Very true. My mum's cousin lived next door and for the last ten years of her life she was in a care home - which started out as a decent one but then those with Alzeheimers and dementia were moved in. Her daughters sold her three bedroom house soon after she left which only paid for about 5 years of her care - and then her kids had to fund the remainder.

I saw the title of the thread and that you posted it and thought for a minute I was going to have to agree with you for once :winking:

And a Merry :xmas5: and a Happy New Year to you too, sir.(I note we have the same first name, quite possibly the only other thing we share is a love of SUFC).
(ps I'd be suprised if you could find anything of substance to disagree with in the link-apart from its source of course).:winking:
