Hooper................is it just me

Is it just me or does anyone else agree that i can't see what all the fuss is about Hooper, i have seen him play about 10 times now and i have not seen enough to say that we should be chasing after his signature.

Granted he has a good touch and has vision, but he goes missing for 80 minutes of the game, he has no real pace , not strong enough and doesn't win many headers. The most shocking thing for me is that at such a young age he just doesn't seem fit , he is blowing out of his a8se after 30 minutes.

It just surprise's me that many people would be willing to let him have a 2 year deal and play a hatfull of games and just say ' well he's learning his trade' rather than get an experienced player who has learnt his trade to come in and get us back into the championship.

For me i would out the 5 goals a season men i.e Bradbury , harrold and hoops release some wages and go all out for someone to partner freddy and get us 20 goals this term.

It can be done as Tilly and Brush proved with Goater.

Yet he went to borient and started scoring goals and they would love to have him, we yet to see him in league one so I will wait to see what he does next season to decide, maybe he not ready for championship yet, but could do well in league one. I do agree with getting rid of Harrold maybe for a sack of s**t

But at league 1 level , lawson has scored goals , so has harrold and paynter too but still none of these are IMO are good enough for us if we are serious about getting back into the Championship.

I think I am with you on this one mate. I like Hooper and I think his versatility is going to be an asset but I dont think I will be losing to much sleep if he goes elsewhere.

I hope he does say but I dont think a 19 year old kid should be holding the club to ransom on his contract when with all due respects he hardly ripped the league up last season all bit it a high level.

Good post and my sentiments enitrely. Get rid of the lightweights and bring some substance in. Does anyone REALLy believe that a front line of Harrold, Paynter, Hooper and Bradbury will get us out of League 1?? I don't think they'd get us out of the Conference and their goal scoring stats would seem to confirm this.

Exactly what i mean, he is 19 , he has been given a chance by us and has done ok , thats all ok.

I think there is a chance he will be a good player at league one standard , but if he is not 100% committed to Southend then there's the door fella, of you go.

I won't lose sleep if he goes but i;d prefer to keep him. He won't be a first team regular and if he doesn't like that fair enough your contract's out, try and find another club.

No ,it's not just you duncan ,go to Hooper in Contract U-turn post ,page 2 ,THE SEVENTIES NORTH BANK .

He can have his undeserved One Year ,but he can clean and polish Freddy's Boots and wash and iron his Kit ( being as Freddy is the Real Striker ) .Maybe even clean out all the bogs at Roots as he has got above himself at the moment .

hooper could be a good player - he has the awarness and a deceptive level of skill - i was cirtainly impressed with him at the last match of the season. rememebr he's only 19(just i think)

he could be miles better than bradbury, harrold and paynter - in terms of scoring goals

Don't care who you are, but if you are holding the club to ransom (completely without justification IMHO) then as others have said....you know where the door is Hoops...

Nobody is bigger than the club...particularly a 19 year old who has only played a handful of league games and can only take 20 minutes before falling off the pace.

You all know my thoughts on him. He's certainly got a lot of work to do on his fitness, but I really rate Hooper and would be delighted to see him at Orient. That said, what with watching Orient all the time, what would I know about good players etc. etc....

Hoops is a good player and when we signed him I got excited as I had seem him twice at Grays. Now I saw a lot of potential in him from day one thought he had a great touch, had bursts of speed and certainly had an eye for goal. Was a little upset of his lack of appearences, due to a couple of injuries and lack of fitness he slumped then went to some ****ty london club on loan and did really well. He certainly has the potential there!

Now what T & B need to do is work on his fitness and really work at him to build up his fitness and strength cause I found he was pushed off the ball a little too easy at championship level. What they don't want is him to not sign and **** off to someone else and do well and end up being a class asset to another team.

As we all know that **** london club he went on loan to are watching his progress and he will leave us for them if he doesn't sign a contract. Which I don't want to happen cause if he has the right attitude (which I think he has), he can work at himself as a player to get the best of his abilities and be a real threat for us in our charge to get back in the championship!!

They might get us out of League 1, just not in the direction that you are hoping for! :)

i see hooper as definitely one for this season and the future. he has the talent and just needs to take his chances. In some ways he did last season. anyone in that team that beat united must have something about them and to be fair he caused champions league players problems! there seems to be a bit of an attitude problem but i would be ****ed off to be behind harrold in the pecking order.

if freddy goes then he would be in the first 11 unless we get an amazing replacement... him alongside paynter or bradders for me

LOL! That Guinea Pig in your sig is class it cracks me up. :hilarious:

but he goes missing for 80 minutes of the game

Probably when he's on the bench given that the bench is where he's been for 16 of his 19 appearances for the club.

It's just negotiating. If we rate him, which I personally do and I hope the club do, we'll be willing to offer him a contract as a member of the first team squad rather than a youngster. I wouldn't assume we've offered him as much as we intend to.

Agree 100% we need a goal scorer of any age who eats breaths and Sh*ts goals. Some one who would be in one hell of a bad mood if we won 6.0 and he hadn't scored any of them. We need a real greedy bast**d who is going to shoot on sight and not wait until he sees the whites of the keepers eyes, and then pass it on to someone else.

Hoops is a talented young player who is a very useful player to have in the squad when needed.

Can't quite see why this criticism is justified myself.
