Ref Watch home friendly vs Derby

Mick

Life President
Tonight's match official is due to be Fred Graham from Orsett.

Fred got onto the League list in 2004/5 but was summarily removed after just one season, rather harshly in my opinion. One of his biggest problems that season was that his one and only Championship match between Brighton and, co-incidentally, Derby "kicked off" somewhat.

However he stuck at it and fully deserved his reinstatement and has now been back for three full seasons. Has not refereed a competitive match at Roots Hall but did do the away match at Gillingham a couple of years ago when he sent of Thurgood.

If I were him, I'd get my match fee up front.

know Fred very well, used to manage of the youth teams at my club in Linford , was also the fourth official at the D&R play off final at Wembley.

If he gives too many penalties like that in proper games, he'll be off again !

Mick,

Interested in your opinion of his unorthodox drop ball technique? Is that allowed? Easton was certainly bemused by it.

Unorthodox certainly. He didn't want players hacking away at the ball right near him. Don't think the Laws prescribe exacly how he should drop the ball although he threw it rather than dropped it.

Couple of other points. Grant needs to be told that if the player he has just kicked doesn't want to shake hands, you can't physically make him - that would have cost him a yellow in a proper game. And Corr should not get involved in debates with the referee about incidents which don't concern him.

Agreed about Grant but the guys reaction to it was also surely worth a yellow?

Any referee that can drive Robbie Savage to such frustration on the pitch that he shouts 'F off' at the top of his voice in a meaningless pre-season friendly is fine by me. Finally getting a taste of his own medicine. I just hope the referee didn't need to use the toilet when they came off.
