Hold on to your hats for this one

Im called upstairs today for a natter with the boss. While chatting about work type stuff and whatnot he suddenly hits me with 'What stand is the East Stand? I explain which it is when he hits me with this.

On thursday morning a letter drops on the mat from Southend Council. In it is notification that building plans have been submitted by Southend United to demolish and recontruct the East Stand. Plans are available for viewing at council offices etc, blah blah blah.

Now call me a cynic but didn't Uncle Ron state in The Echo that it wasfull steam ahead for a new stadium ASAP?

Oh and my source pays my wages, lives in Roots Hall Drive and has nothing to do with the club.

Is that rat I smell?

if you read another story in the echo you would of found the Ron Martin has bought propery in roots hall drive which he wants to demolish and turn in to a block of flats, not roots hall itself, the story goes on to say the flats would not over look the stadium.

My reply was just that yet he told me it wasn't that as the letter about the proposed flats at top of the carpark arrived last week. This is for plans for redevelopment of the East Stand.

Seb, when I worked at the club in 1991 they had to shave the doors in the East every year as the stand was moving. It may be that the stand needs to be rebuilt on safety grounds and might not last until the new stadium. bearing in mind the grants available now to build new stands it won't cost the club much and I wonder if a safety certificate is in doubt? We would lose shedloads if that stand had to be shut for a while.

Just a thought.

Having just checked out planning applications the one for SUFC is; Erect third floor extension to east stand to form offices (Class B1) . Dated 26.02.06 A far cry from demolition.

For the office space needed to run a club that plays in the Championship.

We still have the offices in the east that Vic built last time we were in Div 2/Championship and alledgedly he did very well out of it...lets hope Ron's not got the same idea...
