God it was cold, so very cold.
Nice to see the cheerleaders in Santa outfits.
When the Bradford goal keeper got sent off (a curious decision but 1-0 down, one we were happy to take), I couldnt believe it when Windass took the keepers jersey. Of all the people. The site of him standing alone in the penalty box facing the Southend fans jeering him will stick with me for a while. Fair play to him he didnt bottle it.
But as soon as the keeper went off the game took an air of inevitability about it. Bradford had one player in our half, the other 10 defending. JCR's injury meant Gray switch to teh right of Midfield where he didnt do a lot. Smith was ineffective, and so it was obvious he would be replaced by Bentley and with 10 mins to go, the pacy Cole a switch for Gower, his pace to stretch a tired Bradford 10 men. But as it was obvious to me, so must it have been obvious to Bradford.
With Coles introduction our attacks went Daryl passes to Che, Che passes to Cole, Cole cant get past the defence so passes back to Che, Che right to Maher, a short pass to Bentley who loses it. Repeat for 10 minutes. I dont believe we had a shot on game, we kept trying to take it down the flanks and cross it in, but as Bradford defended so deep nothing came of it.
Smith had a half chance at the start, but the fact that we didnt test Windass who was as short as Daryl and lets face it, a Striker, is very worrying. Also team communication was poor, JCR standing on the wing waving his arms to get a cross when clear happened way too often before he went off.
Barrett cant be faulted he seemed single handedly trying to win the match with surging runs, and well timed tackles, Prior played well too.
Feel free now to ask me what match I was watching, as I go and defrost
