Have you ever bedded someone you have just met whilst sober.

On my way down to Southampton a few weeks ago I was travelling down with long time SZ poster and personal hero of my mine Smudger.

Anyway somehow we got talking about how it must be impossible to meet a woman and bed them the first time you have met them without any form of alchol being consumed.

I ran a straw poll with my mates over the weekend and none of us have even been close to this sort of thing. I am talking totally never met them before not "spoke to them via email for weeks before".

I think this is almost impossible so I await to be amazed.

There was a barking mad, but quite fit, bird at university who pulled me when we were both sober... although I didn't get all the way with her. Just "most of it".

But I can't say I was responsible for it, so that doesn't really count. As for the few birds that I've managed to pull in my life... no, I've required copious amounts of booze to help me get over my crushing nerves in the pulling stakes.

In my days of hanging round the local field on a Friday night in my teenage years I must have bedded about 4 girls who I never even knew... got what my teenage body wanted!

The first was a lass called Clare. We met one morning whilst skating at the Palace Rink on Pier Hill, spent the afternoon tucking into fish and chips then playing various machines down the arcades and then got quite amorous in her bedroom that evening - her dad then gave me a lift home as she lived in Thorpe Bay and I lived opposite Chalkwell Park and was skint. We became a bit of an item for a few weeks until she moved away to Dorset and I never saw her again.

I can't remember the name of the second lass; it was something like Kate. But I remember we met down on Chalkwell Beach one sunny afternoon as she was a cousin of one of my mates and was down for the weekend. We lazed on the beach, chatted for hours, wandered back to my mates house, watched a video (it would have been something like 'The Warriors' or 'The Wanderers' because that's all we watched back then!) and then my mate disappeared upstairs with his girl (his parents were away). We continued talking, heard all sorts of fumbling and commotion from above and thought it would be rude not to. I've never saw her again but have always been fearful of an unhappy 22-year-old turning up on my doorstep claiming to be an offspring!

For the purposes of effect for those who know me: at the time I was about eight stone lighter and had a very cool haircut rather akin to Paul Weller. I was a keen footballer and a very nifty rock-climber - a bit of a catch, me thinks.
