Have been to the reserves,

wiggy

Darryl's Love Child
was on fire. Run rings round Barnet and should now be given a start. Topped it off with a superb solo effort goal and was a constant threat. Along with Jay Smith they were a class apart and they should both start on Saturday if we are to regain our momentum. Can also advise that Petts still hasn't learnt to go forward and the conference beckons!

So, who do you drop for Lawson and Jay Smith?

Yes, let's drop the most consistent player of the season along with the most experienced high level player in the squad - after all, they're only 2 of the best signings we've seen in recent years.

score?

I also think the Goat should be rested, after Saturdays non-performance

I would agree about Goater needing a rest, but would have gone for Gray to replace him as his pace could be key on saturday. Also, Freddy and Wayne have a good understanding already. Lawson, again, being brought on from the bench.

I didn't go to the reserve game today, but in previous reserve games Jay Smith has always stood out, and if it weren't for the good form of Kev and Gutts then I'd be tempted to throw him back in, ahead of one of them and ahead of Beno. Unfortunately for him, Maher is producing some of his best for us this season, and Gutts is showing why Charlton were prepared to pay a six figure sum for him.

agree Lawson was looking fairly good and scored a great solo goal, gray also took his goal well but came off with 20 mins to go (possibly due to slight injury to shoulder). Goat may well be experienced but is so so slow lately but also seems to give the ball away just too much and to be fair Lawson never let us down before he was dropped. Agree Petts still doesnt know what way forward is!

I agree...

And I also think that Bentley did well when he came on...

And that Maher had an absolute stinker on Saturday (Matt the Shrimp will be pleased to know I was hoarse when I left the stadium...

)

I think Eastwood and Gray could start up front on Saturday with the Goat given a rest, and Gutts should start with Maher (if you must) but perhapos should be replaced at half time if he's not having an effective game - with Bentley then earning the right to start at Port Vale if he plays well...

Food for thought!

There really is nothing quite like the traditional British over-reaction.

I do find it somewhat amusing that you're lobbying after a performance against Barnet reserves. Please do consider a career in football management, Wiggy, because I'm sure that it will turn out well.

I can just imagine the veins in your forehead bulging with rage...

HKB posted a very sage comment on here the other day with which I agree: we should pick the team that will beat Forest, not the one that we ought to have picked to beat Swansea.

So, here's my line-up for Saturday:

Bart (presuming Darryl is still injured)

Hunt       Edwards      Barrett      Wilson

Bentley    Maher        Guttridge (sub Cole, 55)   JCR

             Gray          Goater (sub Eastwood, 55)

In the 55th minute, if we're level or behind, do a double sub, switch Benno into the middle, JCR onto the right and Cole on the left with Freddy up front.

It's the sort of positional and tactical switch which Benno can definitely cope with; and JCR is more naturally a right-footed player anyway so would presumably be happier on the right.

It ought to confuse Forest, who ought to be sufficiently battered enough by then in any event (from the Benno / Gray / Goat onslaught), for us to nick the points.

Thoughts?

Matt

It is probable that Goater may benefit from a rest on the bench. However he as good as the service he gets, and against Swansea he got next to bugger all, as was the case with Eastwood until the last 15 minutes.

Tilly will not make many changes against Forest fitness allowing, therefore expect much the same line up on Saturday.

Fortunately Tilly is the manager of the club and not some of the so called experts on here.

Why change a wiining formula? ohhhh - hold on!

I don't expect many changes from the Swansea gam, if any!

I think its time to give goater a rest - I would like to see the kid Lawson given another chance personally.

I think Gray (who has hardly had a bad game all season) deserves his chance ahead of the Goat. The Goat has been a fantastic signing for this club, both in what he does on and off the pitch, but his recent performances have been below what we should expect to be honest.

Would also bring in Bentley for Cole. Cole has great potential, but I think his first full season as a pro is proving a bit much for him at present. Next season we really will have a player on our hands (I hope).

Not interested in the Lawson v Goat debate but one thing did twiddle with my brain cells. Why did we have a number of unplayed subs in the reserve win against Barnet?. Its only a stiffs match and if you can't get a run out there , how does the coach know what you are made of?.
