Relegated on penalties - harsh!

Steveh1510 United - Toddenham Hotspur 2 - 6

5485 spectators arrived at Steveh1510 Arena, where weather conditions were pretty good for football. Steveh1510 tactics involved an interesting 3-5-2 combination. The following players had been chosen: Galt - Harris, Strangwood, Marshall - Glombitza, Strugnell, Jørgensen, Kumar, Cockayne - Ruhrberg, Bullock.

Toddenham had chosen a strategic 4-5-1 formation. Lineup: Ohev Otach - Fitch, MacCormick, Brady, Höring - Bannerman, Almström, Dean, Banfield, Lutz - McInerney.

Brian Bullock gave his Steveh1510 the lead with 1 - 0, as he successfully challenged both the guests central defenders, then placed the ball unreachably at the goaltenders right post. Steveh1510´s John Marshall had an excellent opportunity in the 3rd minute, shooting on a through ball, but he missed the goal by miles! Steveh1510 appeared unsure on how to play. Some brilliant football from the visitors right wing resulted in a 37:th minute levelling of scores as Toddenhams Bernt Lutz equalised to 1 - 1. The referee showed Toddenhams Anthony Bannerman the yellow card after a particularly nasty challenge. Brian Bullock the unlucky victim, couldn´t continue the game, so Stian Haraldsen had to come off the bench. The teams went for a half-time break at 1 - 1. Steveh1510, bringing the final ball possession rate to 51 percent, dominated the battle.

Steveh1510 -coach had an extra briefing during the break, and after that his players looked a lot more organized. Steveh1510s Brian Cockayne got himself booked after a foul. Steveh1510 seemed to suffer a certain amount of confusion about the organization of the team. Steveh1510 had a good opportunity to take the lead as Stian Haraldsen came up the left side, but he struck the ball weakly and it went straight into the arms of Ofer Ohev Otach. Steveh1510 made a bid to take the lead as a ball coming in from the right hand side left Stian Haraldsen completely alone with keeper Ofer Ohev Otach, who made a spectacular block. In the games 86:th minute Toddenham´s Cris Fitch fell dramatically just outside the penalty area. However, the referee booked Cris Fitch for taking a dive. After 89 minutes Steveh1510s Lorentz Ruhrberg had to be carried off on a stretcher in agony. Jan Otterfing came in instead of him. Steveh1510 held the ball, with a clear 63 percent possession rate.

After the regular 90 minutes, the agony of overtime followed. Josh Banfield really should have scored when he was chosen by fate to confront a wide open goal after a corner, but he lost his nerve. Steveh1510 had obvious problems in finding their positions. Steveh1510 could have put themselves ahead in the 107:th minute as Hans-Peter Glombitza missed a volley shot on a ball coming in from the right. The referee showed Toddenhams Stefan Almström the yellow card after a particularly nasty challenge. The result was still a draw, so the game had to be settled with penalties. Steveh1510´s David Strangwood made no mistake. Ofer Ohev Otach didn´t have a chance. 2 - 1. Toddenham´s Danny Dean had nerves of steel at the penalty, changing the score to 2 - 2. Steveh1510´s Richard Galt was seemingly taken by the gravity of the moment, producing a badly laid penalty, blocked by Ofer Ohev Otach. Score still 2 - 2. Toddenham´s Stefan Almström had nerves of steel at the penalty, changing the score to 2 - 3. Steveh1510´s Hans-Peter Glombitza was seemingly taken by the gravity of the moment, producing a badly laid penalty, blocked by Ofer Ohev Otach. Score still 2 - 3. Toddenham´s Reece MacCormick cooly put the ball past Richard Galt. 2 - 4. Steveh1510´s Brian Cockayne penalty shot was very well placed but Ofer Ohev Otach went the right way, blocking it spectacularly. The score was still 2 - 4. Toddenham´s Anthony Bannerman cooly put the ball past Richard Galt. 2 - 5. Steveh1510´s Walsh Strugnell was seemingly taken by the gravity of the moment, producing a badly laid penalty, blocked by Ofer Ohev Otach. Score still 2 - 5. Toddenham´s Mark Brady had nerves of steel at the penalty, changing the score to 2 - 6. Most important Steveh1510 player was David Strangwood. Jan Otterfing was a disappointment, however. Toddenham´s best player was Ofer Ohev Otach. Tomas Höring on the other hand, had a terrible day. The match ends 2 - 6.

Steve if you take my advice as given in the Pub, you should storm your division next season.

Did you chose the penalty takers or did you forget to set this up and left it to chance?

I'd chosen one, because all I'd had was league games previously, hence my GK took the second kick
