MatchID: 10452165
Arena: Southey F.C Arena
Crowd: 3894
A scorching day at Southey F.C Arena, where 3894 spectators were in place for today´s match. Southey had chosen a strategic 4-4-2 formation. The following players had been chosen: Lawrence - Evans, Fuller, Carvalho, Merrill - Potter, Daniels, Seetharamam, Starr - Malone, Mackay.
Birri tactics involved an interesting 3-5-2 combination. Lineup: Krishnan - Ward, Breuilly, Regan - Camden, Hutton, Cathcart, Humphries, Verma - Pownall, Perry.
Southey had a good opportunity to take the lead as Sean Mackay came up the left side, but he struck the ball weakly and it went straight into the arms of Gopikrishna Krishnan. Lee Breuilly unexpectedly struck an inside out ball from no angle at all, and Art Camden forwarded it into goal for 0 - 1 Southeys David Daniels got himself booked after a foul. The referee showed Birris Alfred Humphries the yellow card after a particularly nasty challenge. Southey were forced to a substitution as Danny Evans couldn´t continue playing due to the rough treatment, forcing Christopher Goldsmith to come in from the sidelines. The teams went for a half-time break at 0 - 1. Southey held the ball, with a clear 60 percent possession rate.
Southey evened the score out after a penalty brilliantly laid by Ricky Lawrence. Southey tried to break through in the middle repeatedly, but kept getting stuck on the visitors defenders. Christopher Goldsmith didn´t pace himself at all, and after a series of daring offensive runs he was too tired to help out in the defensive play. This was a good period for the visitors with several opportunities to take the lead, in particular when Art Camden slipped through the defense to come up alone with Ricky Lawrence - but the home side´s keeper showed some lightning reflex Art Camden of Birri received a yellow card in the 74:th minute for unsportsmanlike behaviour. The game was close to savage at times, and Birri`s Alfred Humphries received a second yellow card in the 76:th, his ticket out of the game. Southey were forced to a substitution as Steve Malone couldn´t continue playing due to the rough treatment, forcing Martin Brew to come in from the sidelines. After 78 minutes Birri put themselves up by 1 - 2 as Tim Perry finished off a strike from the left with a real cannon placed at the far post. Southey held the ball, with a clear 60 percent possession rate.
Southey´s best player was David Daniels. Matthew Merrill on the other hand, had a terrible day. The most dominating Birri player was without a doubt Lee Breuilly. Dharsasatman Verma on the other hand, had a terrible day. The match ends 1 - 2.
