Devil's Advocate
Welll looks like the new season in the higher division got off to a flyer. I am now sitting pretty in top spot. However not sure how long that will last as there seems to be a few good teams up here. My main aim is to consolidate my positon and build for promotion next season.

AFC Hatters - FC Gambero 0 - 6
Arena: AFC Hatters Arena
Crowd: 7000

7000 spectators arrived at AFC Hatters Arena, where weather conditions were pretty good for football. Hatters tactics involved an interesting 4-4-2 combination. The following players had been chosen: Cooke - Lombard, Jones, Payne, Gardiner - Butler, Nayyar, Findlater, Morgan - Durán, Barclay.

Gambero tactics involved an interesting 3-5-2 combination. The following players had been chosen: bin Abdul Wahid - Lacey, MacFie, Haverkamp - Lasurt, MacRankin, Stuhr-Ellegaard, Pratt, Hayes - Clarkson, Bladhult.

Gambero mostly ignored the flanks in favour of attacks in the middle. In the games 4:th minute Oscar Pratt almost gave the visitors the lead, as he clipped a spectacular scissors shot just past the bar. Hatters will have to do without Will Barclay for a time due to a bad foot injury. He was substituted by Benjamin MacLaren. Gambero had several good opportunities to take the lead, especially in the 26:th minute when Curt Stuhr-Ellegaard came up alone against Darren Cooke who managed a block. In the 33:e minute, technical Denny Hayes scored 0 - 1 having completely made Sean Lombard look like a fool. Peter MacRankin increased the visitors lead by putting a volley shot away on a pass from the right. 0 - 2. After this Gambero lowered the tempo in order to concentrate on their defensive efforts. Gambero had, after 39 minutes of the game, worked the left side industriously, creating several opportunities to add to their lead, but somehow didn´t achieve closure. The referee showed Hatterss Hieronymus Butler the yellow card after a particularly nasty challenge. Halftime score was 0 - 2. Gambero, bringing the final ball possession rate to 65 percent, dominated the battle.

Per Bladhult could have put his team up another one in the 63rd minute, after a rush down the left, but his closing shot hit the post. Oscar Pratt of Gambero received a yellow card in the 75:th minute for unsportsmanlike behaviour. After 78 minutes a combination in the middle resulted in a through ball for Per Bladhult who increased Gambero´s lead to 0 - 3. The visitors Per Bladhult took advantage of an error due to a misunderstanding between the home side´s goalie and central backs in the 80:th minute. 0 - 4 for Gambero. A well placed corner kick from Nicholas Clarkson was followed by Oscar Pratt´s hard but accurate header. The nice combination meant goal for Gambero. The result now 0-5. In the 82nd minute Gambero put themselves up 0 - 6 after an attack from the right, caused by a defensive blunder. Scorer was Oscar Pratt. The fortyfive minutes were dominated by Gambero, with an impressive 70 percent possession of the ball.

The most dominating Hatters player was without a doubt Alan Nayyar. However, Lucky Jones made a disastrous appearance. Most important Gambero player was Peter MacRankin. Ross Lasurt was a disappointment, however. The match ends 0 - 6.

Yep, in top spot too, but only because I got to play one of the teams which is relegation fodder this season.  Still, I won 9-0... oh, and I was "playing it cool" for the game, so Team Spirit ain't too bad!

Unfortunately, there look to be some bloody good sides in the division this year - I'll do well to hold on to third place, which I've sort of made mine in the last two seasons!  So long as I can finish in the top 4... and I should be able to do that, then I can consolidate this year and push for better things next year.

My youth team is now at "excellent" (although my first "pull" from it was a bit ropey) so hopefully I'll get a gem sooner or later; and I'm now in the process of extending Roots Hall to a capacity of 23,000 - so I'll hopefully get a few more fans in.

Anyhow, nice to start the season on such a positive note...

Darren Adamson seemed highly inexperienced when in the 13th minute he was loitering with the ball, allowing Mitch Tressider to intercept and strike 1-1 for SWINDON. kelvedon tactics involved an interesting 3-5-2 combination. Lineup: Åkesson - Viilo, Gustavsson, Gustavsson - Abhasra, Mattauch, Bosmans, Chapman, Carllius - Sinclair, Rodland.

Southend had chosen a strategic 3-5-2 formation. They fielded: Garfield - Cilly, Briones, Chana - Wai-Son, Bernhardsson, Widererberg, van de Beek, Lockhart - Askenbom, Moore.

kelvedon mostly ignored the flanks in favour of attacks in the middle. Southend saw most attack opportunites on the wings and were directing their passes that way. In the game's 10:th minute kelvedon´s Sutep Abhasra limped slightly after a late challenge, but he was able to continue. After 24 minutes Elias Gustavsson put kelvedon ahead 2 - 0 as he rose to head in a hooked ball, the result of an effort from the right side. In the 34:th minute of the match the visitors central line of defence had to look on as Sven Gustavsson dashed through, knocking home 4 - 0 for kelvedon.
