Incredible...

Congrats to the team and all the travelling fans - you sounded amazing on the Radio!!!

I just hope there are some highlights on Match Of The Day tonight.

Everyone enjoy their parties!!

I notice that Alexander's comments after the match showed his usual lack of respect for the opposition. His substitutions were done on the basis that he thought they would win on penalties - he's a good journeyman, nothing more.

Just listened to Alexander's comments after the game. Reckoned that
>they were the better team for 60 minutes of the game
--- I'd give them 35 mins max where they were on top
>they gave it away to sloppily
---well, if you will hit it long at every opportunity then as your team tire, they won't get as much of the ball.
>Yeo wasn't offside and that was a goal
---nice one. He may have scored but in light of the fact that Flahavan did very little, it's hardly safe to say.

Just wish he could be gracious for once. Well, the biggest testament to the game was that we scored two and they scored none.

So he didn't pick the ref up on the fact that there was clear contact when Bently went down in the area??

Just seen the replay on Sky Sports News

Have they shown the replay of the National Anthem and the camera picking out one Harry Barris during it? The look on his little face was superb.

Dont forget that Lincoln's 'goal' was touch and go offside...we were lucky in that instance..the ref missed a lot

Just got back and the first glass of champagne is slipping down very nicely

Basically we weathered the hoofball storm and eventually our far supreior footballing quality shone through.  Lincoln, as expected, were very much a one trick pony.  Not one player with an ounce of skill.  For that team to progress they would need to replace virtually every player - Alexander has got the very best from what are a very mediocre set of players.

Thought the ref was poor early on, allowed Linclon to get away with their heavy handed tactics.

Maher ran the show from half time onwards and fully deserved 7,000 Shrimpers singing "there's only one Kevin Maher" at the end.  Bet ORM enjoyed that.

Defence were also rock solid bar a couple of Flavs flaps.  Jupps' energy was immense - what the hell was he doing in the Lincoln penatly area at 1-0 after 110 minutes?

Drive home was a real pleasure - what a contrast to the LDVs.  Every Southend car passed, honking of horns, pumping of fists and waving capped off by plenty of impromptu singing at the services.

Superb, superb, superb

Lincoln got what they deserved-lucky the roof was off otherwise there would have been lots of drop balls. Well done Southend who maintained playing flowing football for 120 mins!

Haven't seen any highlights or heard any comments but suffice to say not only were we the better team we were the only footballing team on show.

What's more congratulations to all our travelling fans. It was a pleasure to be a Blues fan today. There weren't many of us but we sang our hearts out and the team gave us everything in return.

My kids are exhausted but my four year old has sung all the way home in the car!

Here's to a few months off!

I know we are all being critical of Lincoln's route one style of football, and rightly so, but during the games, at times, when they got the ball on the deck they looked like they could knock the ball about a bit.

They had the opening exchanges but we grew into the game. Pretty even at half time but from the on we dominated. Tilly said we could have possibly had one or two more and I make him spot on.

I think I will send the deligtful Keith Alexander a post card from our first away game after hsi comments on the opening away game this season.

Disagree with Boy Wonder I felt Lincoln were nothing mroe than a crude long ball side with little or nothing to offer other than a dull long ball game. Not the way football should be played

Still the battle is over and the war is won ! Well done lads.

LINCOLN CITY 1 SOUTHEND UNITED 1
Tuesday 10th August 2004 : Coca-Cola League Two
Reporter : ShrimperZone

KEITH ALEXANDER (LCFC) :
“First half we played very well.“Some of our passing and movement was very good but the end product wasn't there. People always say what a big team we are but they don’t come bigger than [Southend]. Everybody is a six-footer and they get the ball up there quickly. But, with all due respects, they aren’t going to be there or thereabouts although they’re going to take points off other sides which will help us in the long run.”

Yeah, like Petts, who's almost inhuman height comes in very handy when the need to change bulbs in the floodlights comes about.

This year's 'I talk bow-lacks Ian Atkinson award' goes to Mr. K Alexander of Lincoln City FC.
