I had a copy of that- it came out around 87 I think- the Dick Bate 'era' . Had a great feature entitled 'These Players Are s%&t' and included Eric Steele and Richard Young among others. It also contained a poem about Dick Bate that included the immortal line:

'The art of football you have not mastered
So f%&k off now you useless *******'

Brilliant.

Aaah - Richard Young - he was a ringer for Marigold from Til Death us do Part. Which was good because he was a sh*te centre forward.

He was often referred to as Marigold, well in our bit of the North bank anyway

For the younger fans here.

For Young ...think of Tony Richards at his very Worst, then try and imagine what that would then be like with only one leg...

Dick Bate made Steve Wignall look like Sir Alf Ramsey

We really did have some poor players around that time.

Trevor Whymark anyone ? (I saw Milk turn quicker)

Think we must have inhabited the same part of the North Bank Firestorm.

Trevor Whymark had the turning circle of a jumbo jet, you could literally see him put the brakes on after a "lung bursting run", and then take until the next home game to get back.

Dick Bate is up there with Wignall & Peter Morris as 3 of the most clueless managers we have endured.
