Harry Potter

I went into tescos tonight just before midnight and couldnt believe the size of the queues to buy the new book! It wasnt just kids but adults, standing there dressed as witches and wizards and for a while I thought to myself, have the people of England actualy lost there marbles!?!

I have to admit, I'm one of these people who thinks Harry Potter is a load of bollocks. Dont get me wrong, for Children im sure its a fantastic story and its great that they can sit down and actualy read a book rather than watch some of the ****e on tv these days but a book for Adults? Really?

I've decided to contradict myself and see what all the fuss is about. I havent watched any of the films so I dont have a clue who's who and what's what.

What order do these books come in so I know which to read first, second etc?

The books "grow up" as you read them. The first two are definitely kids only as far as I am concerned; the subsequent reads are far more entertaining:

The Philosopher's Stone
The Chamber of Secrets
The Prisoner of Azkaban
The Goblet of Fire
The Order of the Phoenix
The Half Blood Prince
The Deathly Hallows

I went to Asda in Basildon town centre after work last night, got there at about 20 minutes to midnight.

There were hundreds in the queue, and after i joined, the queue went back down that moving travelator right into the car park.

I've not read any of the other books, but this one captured the imagination and i got it for my son for when he's older.

Now, i had a right result! They were giving out raffle tickets to everyone in the queue. I got number 211, which meant i was the 211th person in the queue.

Bout 5 minutes before the book went on sale, my number got read out HURRAHH! I couldn't believe it!

I won the book for free, and got the first one out of the store. Plus i jumped over 200 people in front of me in the queue to get it :)

They must have given out over 500 raffle tickets, and my one got picked out!

I was well pleased, especially as they were only letting in 5 people at a time to buy it. So god knows what time i would have got home if i had to wait.

:) :) :)

Tony I once had respect for you now I think your a sad **** :finger: :hilarious:

Well at 12.00pm last night I was watching the Police deal with fight which had spilled out from a house party down my street from the comfort of my new first floor flat.

Much more entertaining than Harry Potter, I hope its a regular Friday night event .

:thump:

just finished reading it... amazing, absolutely amazing... for all you people not willing to try it then fair enough, but the books (especailly as mike said the last 5) are worthy of being up there with any literature... the comparisons with narnia and LOTR are inevitable, and IMO the HP series is even better

im not spoiling it for anyone (not even you Jay_Shrimper so stop PMing me!)... look on wiki if you want to know

it was just awesome. picked it up after finishing door work at 12:30 and 12 hours later and not enough sleep in the middle i had finished! just great!

glad you liked it Mr G,

i thought the book was excellent, didn't quite wrap up everything i wanted it too.. but it resolved the main stuff really well and the tension was unbelievable!

Loads of people of all ages reading it on the terrace of the bar yesterday afternoon, including plenty of Spanish (the Spanish translation isn't realised for a while). From what I can make out from one or two who have commented, it's going to make an awesome film; it's a shame that some people think like that for the book should stand on its own, but having briefly flicked through a copy, I can understand the reasoning.

Surely the queue would have been no more than a dozen or so if the rest of them were on the travelator?

You really like to talk yourself up, don't you. No wonder Jodie Marsh said "I've had a few bad'uns in my time, but this takes the p.iss, I'm going lezzy now." after she met you.

What you on? I'm not talking myself up one bit!!!!

Also, the queue went from Asda, right down in to Eastgate then double backed to the travelator!

Talking myself up, i think not :hilarious: :hilarious:

It's something wry, cynical and ironic called wit, Tony. You just wouldn't understand. In any case, was it really worth all that queueing when you already knew 2 years ago that Voldemort would die?
