More bad news, sod's law when you have such a small squad.

Chopper is out of today's match with a medial Knee ligament injury, could be up to 6 weeks out

and just five on the bench and that includes the keeper, couple of injuries and we are ****ed, why not add two youth team players to the bench ?

Because they are not good enough/haven't warranted a first team chance yet?

This. The only youngster I'd consider ready to come off the bench for us would be Seedy Njie, and he's included. The youngsters who are still at the club are still fairly young, with those on development contracts like Paxman, Auger and Mullins out getting experience at non-league clubs. There's little sense in recalling them from regular first-team football to man our bench during an injury crisis.

Must be dozens of out of experienced lower league journeymen out there currently out of contract. I am sure they would snap our hands of if offered a month or short term deals to a) earn a wage, b) put themselves in the shop window with us or another club.

We can't continue with a squad this small, even more so with the injuries we are carrying. Hall and Ferdinand not replaced with anyone from our midfield options let alone replaced with any quality.

Really would expect a couple of short term signings or loanees this week as we have lots of games coming up.

yeh we would rather throw away three points at this stage instead, couple of early injuries for us and thats that.

Therein lies the problem I suspect.....

Because having three 16/17-year olds would help that...

I think it was abundantly clear that Sturrock knew he'd have to operate on a tighter budget this season. It was fairly visible from the signings we made that he was after players who could play more than one position, so as to get the most out of the personnel we could actually have. Of the options we've got today, Straker can come into defence, Woodyard into midfield and Benyon into attack. Those three players would be ahead of any youngster we'd have to populate the bench. We'd have to shuffle around to compensate, but what team doesn't?

No, having the five substitutes isn't particularly helpful, but it's not a situation that a 16-year old youth player would alleviate

and of course its not a good thing to have two youngsters on the bench to get experience eh:nope:

They wouldn't be getting experience. They're not good enough to play first team football so they'll be sitting there filling and warming the bench just for the sake of it. After thinking they're the mutt's nuts for being called into the squad, their confidence will be seriously knocked by travelling but not getting a chance to play. That will do more harm than good.
