Just watching the Panorama special, I saw an article earlier that described Donovan as a dimwit, they certainly didn't understate the point. What a pair of ****wits how did they seriously expect to get away with it?

Apparently the police are now looking for the 'mastermind' who thought up this plan in the first place. Karen Mathews is being painted as an very domineering woman who could get her own way with ease. Please tell me this isn't a sexual thing, I will be sick.

I bet this ends up with some psychological justification for her constant bad parenting. Why, oh why, was this child not in care anyway? And where the heck did she manage to keep getting temazepan prescribed? There's an awful lot of people that need to examine their parts in this sad, sad story. I didn't catch all the Panorama programme but from what I saw Shannon Matthews was badly let down by people that should have been there for her.

I noticed a few of the headlines in the red tops on the train this morning and was disgusted how they were trying to twist this tragic case into something it is not.

Headlines such as 'He would have killed her' are nothing but speculation and there were several unecessary references to 'benefits scum' lifestyles.

One thing not being mentioned at all is the fact that this michael donovan looks like that dave geezer from the royal family (craig cash is it?) and karen matthews is a right dog.

I read it in this mornings paper so I had a quick qoogle for news on Child protection social workers this year. Before the Baby P case hit the courts the only articles I could find were those complaining that social workers had taken children away and how they could do it without "evidence"

So they are "over zealous" when they have sufficient evidence to get the nessecary court orders to remove the child, yet negligent when the evidence they have is insufficient to get to court order.

And as for the witch hunt the Sun is mounting , is there any wonder that there is such a shortage of front line social workers that they are advertising all around the world.

How many people would do a 3 year degree course just to do a job which often involves requiring police protection and working all hours of the day in very distressing circumstances.

So glad someone has realised this. I know a girl who does that job and, weirdly enough, I was speaking to her just before the Baby P case broke. I asked her if it was hard telling parents that they weren't allowed to see their children again and she said it was desperately difficult, but not as bad as being given a note six months later to say that the child you were supposed to be safeguarding is dead.

It's a horrible job and it's astonishing that so much bile has been dished out at them when people should be taking a good look at themselves.

How did we end up with a society where this kind of evil can take place. What happened to the mother's family, her neighbours or her friends? Where were they when the abuse was going on, why didn't they think that something was amiss?

I don't want to get so melodramatic that I started talking about the breakdown of society, but with Baby P and Shannon Matthews in the same year, you do start to wonder what the **** is wrong with people.

The latest report from Haringey states that 42% of the Social Workers in their Childrens services are Agency staff which are got in because they can't fill the permanent roles.

Then she has all my sympathy. It's a nasty job for good people, but tell her from me that there's at least one person out there who recognises the fact that she has probably prevented the deaths of Babies Q, R, S and T at the very least.
