Great sports stadia

Uncle Leo

Sitting at Lord's yesterday watching Middlesex vs Essex I was reminded of just how much I love the place. It's certainly one of my very favourite sports venues.

Which then got me thinking...this could make a good SZ thread. So come on, favourite non-football sports stadia here please.

I'd also like to give a mention to the Kallimarmaro in Athens. Made entirely of marble, the place just drips with history. I saw a couple of event sthere in the 2004 Olympics.

and a pic of Lord's for good measure:

I love the look of the new Bayern Munich stadium, the Allianz Arena (think the same designer is responsible for the new Portsmouth stadium design).

Also there's a stadum in Lillehammer, Norway that was built for the winter olympics, it was used as a velodrome for World Championships and a number of hour record attempts!

Camden Yards in Baltimore is a good example of clever stadium design. Looks like a welcoming old ground although construction didn't actually start until 1989. shame they play such a lousy sport as baseball there, really.

anyone been to the MSG madison square garden, before ?

No, but I did have some in my Chinese take out last night.:D

Lords - the first day of the first test match of a new cricket season every time.

I have to agree about the Emirates, as a rule (and not having been to Wembley yet) I don't really like the new football stadia, as in the main I think they are soul less.

Yep, to see the New York Knicks play the Milwaukee Bucks. Cracking arena, although the atmosphere was a bit muted as New York played terribly and Milwaukee had barely any fans there (away support, for understandable reasons, not really being a big thing in the USA).

i'd like to spend a day here (Indionapolis)

On the British side of racing my dad says Silverstone was a cracking day when he went there for the final round of the touring cars last season

Wrigley Field is probably the best stadium I've ever had the opportunity to visit, nearly 100 years old and always a great atmosphere.

Another favorite is Folsom Field where for four straight autumns I stood watching college football (american football) at my alma mater

American Sports Stadiums are pretty cool... Ben to Giants Stadium and Yankee's Stadium. Yankee stadium was amaxing, stands on 2 sides to hold 60,000 odd.

Soldier field in Chicago is nice too - but very exposed.

As the Bears are my NFL team I've always wanted to go there, but it always looks really bloody parky!
