I found this quote from a Manchester paper on 15th May, reviewing the season just ended:

Two major factors will determine how well Rochdale does next season with the futures of Gilks and Holt uppermost in their manager's minds.

Gilks a product of the club's youth policy is now firmly established as the club's No 1 keeper and is yet to sign the new and improved contract offered to him whilst at the same time being courted by at least two Premier$hite clubs.

Leading scorer Holt with 24 goals to his name is also under the microscope but has a further year left on his contract at Spotland.

If Parkin can keep hold of his two hot properties and bring in the sort of quality he is looking for then next season may well prove to be a happy time for the long suffering Spotland faith.

Player of the season - Grant Holt

With 24 goals, 17 yellow cards, three suspensions and numerous on-field spats with opponents, there is never a dull moment when Grant Holt is on the pitch. His contribution this season has been superb and if boss Steve Parkin can hold on to him his goals may well fire Dale to promotion next time around.

Goal of the season - Grant Holt

Saving his best until almost the last, Holt produced a stunning shot on the turn during Rochdale's demolition of Oxford in their final home game of the season.

Firstly, how much would he cost, given that he has another year on his contract, and secondly, it sounds as though he is tallish [six foot] and just over twelve stone, so does that make him in the target man mould. He certainly puts it about a bit, if  17 yellow cards and 3 suspensions are anything to go by, but  24 goals alongside Freddy would certainly be useful.

PS I have just previewed my post, and  I don't think the Manchester paper quite said that about Gilks' suitors from the top echelon of the English football pyramid. Is there any chance of turning off the find and replace instruction, every time the Premireship is mentioned? Not all of us want to end up pseudo swearing....

I'm sure he is a more realistic signing now we are in League One.

He's the type of player we need though, strong and with an eye for goal!

If the rumours are true, he would be great to have.

don't forget Bently's 15 cards this season too!!
I thought it was 14?

However if it is 15 does that mean Bentley is suspended for the start of next season?
