Gordon Connelly

Ah but WHAT a half!!! It was like he'd been abducted by aliens and temporarily replaced by Maradona!

Not a TEFL teacher are you, by any chance?
There's a book by Michael Swan, The Cambridge English Course, which has just that sort of unlikely scenario(not with Gordon Connolly as the "hero" of course).

Worst player I've ever seen don the Southend shirt

"You took the words right out of my mouth". The only thing I could add to that statement is. BY FAR THE............

You two are very fortunate.

Whilst Connolly was undoubtably useless, he could at least trap a ball. Step forward Rio Alderton, for whom this most basic of tasks was repeatedly too much.

I'd also take Connolly (reluctantly) over the likes of Scott Ashenden, Brett Darby, Ben Lewis and several others who disappeared into oblivion as quickly as they emerged from it.
