Question Good nights out?

BaileytheQuitter

Where in the Southend, Basildon area is a good place for a night out.

Just turned 18 and looking for good clubs/bars/pubs for nights out.

Any suggestions?

Place and small description would be very helpful.

The Cliff, cracking pub with good entertainment. PM the poster 'Scrounger' about it, he practically lives there.

The Forresters and Image down the seafront are always lively.

York road is always nice for a stroll at night..( so Ken told me)

The sad thing is that it's 16 years since I was 18 and most of the places I used to go to are no more or at least very, very different.

It's all about personal taste as well. When I was around your age my preference would be for The Pink Toothbrush on a Friday and Saturday with Club Art on a Tuesday for the Rage Indie night. Either that or go and see a live band. In reality though I probably spent as much time in Tots and The Esplanade (in the cage of Saturday nights) because that's where mates were heading.

I am starting to feel extremely old just thinking about it to be honest!

If you drive around there very slowly you will see for yourself. Maybe stop to chat to the friendly local women who wait on street corners to speak to the men who want to pass the time of day.

Bas Vegas is ok, along with the usual places in Southend - Mayhem, Talk, Bakers. If you want pubs then to be honest I wouldn't recommend Southend, although there are a few ok bars, like Varsity, Saks, Townhouse, Bar 29. Leigh is good if you want a night out but not to hit a club... I've never been out in Basildon centre.

Admittedly I haven't been in Southend for a few months now, but last time I passed Saks they had a Gay Pride Flag flying outside... Has it gone Queer Eye now?

The young lad has just turned drinking age, and you all give him **** advice. Avoid York Road, its a red light district. Seriously though, The Cliff is a really nice place- Scrounger goes there so often he now works there....
