Good Luck!...

Not striking since 2004
To the Royal Air Force as they seem set to take the lead role in Military Action against Libya.

Especially amazing as the current fleet of RAF assets stands at 3* Airfix models, and half a Nimrod. *It would be four, but little Johnny wanted his model back.

Here's a question. Do the UK forces receive any recompense for these type of involvements / actions? If so, how? I'm assuming we don't have to submit our fuel receipts, but otherwise it's yet another drain upon our resources.

This is a serious question - especially now that our forces and national budgets are stretched to the limit and, let's face it, there's little direct impact upon the UK itself.

Good luck to our guys.
But why do we always have to go in first. We are already seen as the bad guys by the rest of the World, and that we and the U.S.A. act as the policemen of the Arab World. That's why we now come last in the Eurovision song contest no matter how good the song is.
Why not let others take the main blame, and then we come in after they get all the stick.
Quite surprised that France have stepped up to the plate, very unlike them.

well he does need something to keep him occupied whilst he sits on the bench :winking:

With the Libyans now calling ceasefire, there may not be as much action as initially planned.

Let's hope so.

However, I think Chadded raises a valid point. Shouldn't we be spending our military budget on the airforce rather than non-front line soldiers bothering penguins in the Falklands or holidaying in Cyprus or Germany?

Completely agree, although I'd expect there to be a whole host of redundancies of non-front line soldiers over the next two/three years as the SDSR begins to bite.

Indeed. The details of the first wave of redundancies, and who can/can't apply is already out, with the second phase released in Septermber.

Luckily for you there will always be a mountain of porn to confiscate.

For those who don't know, Ricey's just gone through the initlal training in the RAF, wonder if he's expecting to get involved in all this so soon....

I'm just gutted the Un Resolution doesn't allow a ground invasion. I've only got one medal. I want another......

On a serious note, Ricey, fair play. I've done 6 and a half years in the Army now, and it's the best job there is. What's he joined as though? I'm not an infantry solider (though I've worked with/next to plenty), but unless he is RAF Regt (in which case he would be ground troops) or a Pilot (years of training, and we've just got rid of loads) then the chances of him being anywhere near the front are between slim and none, and slim just left town..... so I wouldn't worry just yet..

I wouldn't rule out a ground invasion... Libya flouted the ceasefire sharpish and the coalition have already started some quite forceful reaction. If things do go pear-shaped and Gaddafi has to go, it wouldn't be beyond the realms of doubt that we'd commit x number of soldier to oversee the transition of power.

It's a longer way off than you think though. It won't happen without another UN resolution, and the news at 3 SCOTS (yes, all three of them) were on standby, was for humanitarian reasons (Britain has a battlegroup strength on 48 hrs notice to deploy anywhere, at all times). I am led to beleive that some troops have been moved forward from the normal place of South Cerney, Wilts, to Cyprus, but this is unconfirmed. Besides. I'm not part of that battelgroup, and don't expect to be wearing desert kit anytime soon. More's the pity. i could do with an operational bonus.
